IMPROVEMENT IN PORTABLE FIELD-FENCE.

TO ALI; WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, C. S. S. GRIFFING, of Ashtahula county, land State of Ohio, have invented an improved Portable Field-Fence; and I do hereby declare the following to he an exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents two panels of the fence joined together.
Figure 2, an end view.
Figure 3 shows how thepanels can be adjusted to the inequalities of the ground.
Figure 4 shows two panels with the postsupporting them.
Figure 5, the shape of the post.
The nature of my invention consists in the mode of attaching the panels together by lapping over the ends of the boards on each side of the slats, so' as to brace the ends firmly against the pressure of wind or water, and to enable them to be adjusted to the inequalities of the ground, the invention being an improvement on my patent of May 2-1, 1854.
The panels are intended to be made of five boards, A A. A A A, more or less, and the boards about eight or ten feet in length, or any desirable length, and they are nailed at proper distances apart to slats B B,'the slats being upright, and one near each end of the panel, and the panels are light and easily handled and transported. The upper and lower boards A A are nailed on the one. side of the slats B, and the centre boards A A A are nailed on the opposite sides of the slats, so that the ends of the boards lap over the slats B on each side, and are thus firmly braced at the same time they are easily adjusted to the inequalities of the ground, as seen at fig. .3. The ends of the boards A are fitted together between the standards D D and braces E E that are attached to a base board C that forms the angular post that supports the panels of the fence. This post may be used at each or any desired panel wherever necessary.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The mode of attaching the panels together by lapping over the ends of the boards A on each side of the slats B, so as to brace the ends, and also adjust them to the inequalities of the ground, as herein described.
