Be it known that I, FRANK H. WIARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ypsilanti, in the county of Washtenaw and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Bag-Hold er, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to bag-holders, and has for its object to provide an improved device for distending the mouth of a bag, so as to facilitate the filling thereof and at the same time clamping the bag to the support and sustaining the weight of a filled bag. It is furthermore designed to provide a foldable device, so that it may be folded into compact form and out of the way when not in use, and to provide for the convenient application and removal of a bag by the same operation employed in folding and unfolding the device With these and other objects in view the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings,and particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood that changes in the form, proportion, size, and minor details may be made within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View illustrating the application of the present bag-holder. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a bag-holder constructed in accordance with the present invention. Fig. 3 is a detail end elevation looking from the inner side of the device. Fig. 4 is a detail sectional view taken on the line 00 cc of Fig. 3.

Corresponding parts in the several figures of the drawings are designated by like characters of reference.

Referring particularly to Fig. 2 of the drawings, it will be seen that the present device comprises a fixed member 1 and movable member 2, pivotally or hingedly connected to the fixed member. The fixed member is formed from a single length of wire, which is bent into substantially U shape, so as to provide the opposite pendent arms 8. At the intersection of each arm and the body of the fixed member the wire is twisted into an eye 4, located in the plane of the member and de- Serial No. 13,091- (No model.)

signed to receive suitable fastening devices 5, whereby the member may be secured flat against a suitable support. The lower extremity of. each arm 3 is bent laterally outward in the plane of the member, so as to form a substantially U shaped jaw 6, and the inner end of the latter is bent forwardly into a shoulder '7, which extends at substantially right angles to the plane of the member. Intel-mediate of the ends of each arm the latter is bent into an eye 8, which is located upon the outer side of the member and has its opening extending transversely thereof. The movable member 2 is also formed from a single length of wire, which is bent into a substantially U-shaped bail. Adjacent to the free end of each side of the hail the wire is twisted in a vertically-disposed eye 9 and also inclined upwardly and forwardly across said side, so as to form an arm 10, the extremity of which is bent into a hook 11 and engaged with the adjacent eye 8, so as to pivotally or hingedly connect the bail or movable member to the fixed member.

In the operation of the device, as best illustrated in Fig. l of the drawings, the inner edge of the bag 12 is engaged over the shoulders 7 and against the vertically-disposed jaws 6, after which the bail or movable member is swung downwardly, so that the eyes or jaws 9 may engage against the inner side of the bag and clamp the latter against the respective fixed jaws 6, whereby the bag is firmly held between the respective jaws and the adjacent shoulders 7. The bail or movable mem her also fits snugly Within the mouth of the bag, so as to hold the latter open, and the outer corners of the member are bent or extended outwardly, as indicated at 13, so as to bear tightly against the bag. To remove the bag from the holder, it is simply necessary to swing the bail or movable member upwardly, thereby disengaging the jaws from the bag, and the latter may then be readily removed from the device. When the bagholder is not in use, the movable member may be swung upwardly against the surface or support to which the device may be applied, so that said movable membermay be out of the way.

It will be noted that as the bag-is being filled the weight thereof will tend to'draw the outer end of the movable member downwardly, thereby clamping the jaws more firmly upon the bag and also preventing accidental displacement of the latter.

What is claimed is- 1. A bag-holder, comprising a fixed member and a movable member, the fixed member being formed from. a single length of wire bent into substantially U shape, and the opposite sides of the U-shaped member forming pendent arms, each arm being provided with a transverselydisposed bent portion forming a fixed jaw, and also having an outwardly-extending portion forming a shoulder located at one side of the jaw, and the movable member being formed from a single length of wire bent into substantially U shape, the opposite sides of the movable member being pivoted or hinged to the respective arms of the fixed member, and also provided with bent portions forming jaws for cooperation with the jaws and shoulders of the fixed member.

2. A bag-holder, comprising a fixed member formed from a single length of wire bent 1 into substantially U shape and having pendent arms,attaching-eyes formed between the respective arms and the body of the member, fastenings passing through said eyes, intermediate eyes formed upon the pendent arms, jaws formed by outwardly-bent portions of the arms, the extremities of the latter being bent forwardly and forming shoulders at the inner ends of the jaws, and a movable member formed from a single length of wire bent into a substantially U-shaped bail, the opposite sides of the latter having vertically-disposed eyes bent therein and forming jaws for cooperation with the jaws of the fixed member, the ends of the bail being bent upwardly into arms, and the latter having hooks pivotally or hingedly engaged with the respective intermediate eyes of the fixed member.
