MW amm@ OTTO IIALLENSLEBEN, OF I-IILDEN, GERMANY.
WOVEN PILE FABRIC.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 655,076, dated. July 31, 1900. Application led November 5 1897. Serial No. 657,565. (No specimens.) 4
To @ZZ wit/0111, t may concern: Y
Be it known that I, OTTO HALLENsLEBEN,
a subject of the King of Prussia, German Emperor, and a resident of Hilden, in the Province of the Rhine, German Empire, have invented certain new and.useful Improvements in Woven Pile Fabrics, of which the following is an exact specification. i
My invention pertains to the manufacture of double-pile fabrics, in which two fabrics are woven face to face and the pile warp-threads tied not only by the ground-webbut also by a second web which engages the pile. y
Hitherto in the bindings for pile fabrics in which cover warpthreads and threads engaging the pile were employed a disadvantage has become manifest that the tufts of pile could be withdrawn or pulled out of the finished fabric.
The object of my invention is to obviate the above by causing the tufts of `pile to be secured against withdrawal or pushing out of the back and also to insure that the pilethreads shall always maintain an upright position. v
According to my invention in the formation of double-pile fabrics of the said kind I employ a ground-web and also a second web to engage or bind the tufts of pile. Especially when employing a pile binding in which each pick or thread of weft carries pile it is possible in the case of coarse fabrics-such as carpets, plushes, daer-to easily pull the separate tufts of pile out of the fabric, and some of the bindings now in use to counteract this objection have not entirely answered the purpose. In the present invention by employing a special binding or tying web I obviate not only this objection, but by the special arrangement of this particular web over the ground-web the tufts of pile assume an upright position of a durable character.
In order to make my invention more clear, I refer to the accompanying drawings, in which similar letters denote similar parts throughout the several views, and in which- Figures l and 2 show the binding of fabric of this description, of which Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section through the fabric, and Fig. 2 a horizontal section on the line :rx through the tufts of pile as shown in Fig. l.
e e designate the coarse ground weft-threads of the ground-Web, of which every thread carries pile.
b b are the binder warps or threads of the ground-web, the threads of which bind crosswise one over and one un der each weft-thread. With this ground-web the new binding or tying web forming'the characteristic feature of my invention is connected by means of the chain c, arranged above the same, said binding or tying web being formed by or consisting of the fine ground weft-threads fand the ground warp-threads ot a.
` The tufts of pile d, which are held by means of the .coarse ground weft-threads e of the ground-web, are held or securedbetween two adjacent coarse ground weft-threads e for the `purpose of avoiding the pulling out of the 'pile-threads.
vsaid second binding-web, above the pile tufts,
is more closely woven than the ground-web.
In the drawings a taffet-binding-vl. e., a binding where every single thread bi nds crosswise one under and one over each pick or thread of weft-is used for the new binding or tying web, said taffet-binding being more especially suitable for binding the weftthreads. I wish it, however, to be understood that I could employ any other suitable binding for this purpose.
I-Iaving thus fully described the nature of this invention, what I desire to secure byLetters Patent of the United States is In a pile fabric, the combination of coarse ground weft-threads c 'c,pile-threads d secured between adjacent coarse weft-threads e e, binder-warps b b binding the ground weftthreads e e, fine weft-threads f and warpthreads act located above the ground weftthreads e e and forming a second tying-web, a chain c connecting the two Webs, for they purpose and substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of 'two subscrib` ing witnesses.
oTTo HALLENSLEBEN.
Witnesses WILLIAM EssnNvvEIN, ERNEST BUDRE.
