DANIEL A. DENIS'ON, OF TROY, MIGHI GAN.
Letters Patent No. 63,370, dated April 2, 1867.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, DANIEL A. DENISON, of Troy, in the county of Oakland, and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Farm Gates; and I do hereby delare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, in which- Figure 1 is asection on the line at 2:, fig. 2.
Figure 2 is a side elevation; and
Figure 3 is a vertical section on the line y y.
In all the figures the same letters are employed in the indication of identical parts.
The following description will enable one skilled in' the art to construct and apply my improvement.
A and A are sliding gates, formed of longitudinally arranged parallel boards, sliding between double parallel posts, B B, of which there are two sets for each gate, placed at such distance apart that the gates shall always he retained in a horizontal position, resting upon rollers, 13, placed between the posts B, and turning freely upon journals. Blocks, B are placed between the posts and between the two lower boards, so as to prevent the gates being thrown up by any unusual Weight upon the outer ends of the gates.
When the gates are'closed they are fastened by double hooks, C, the shank, C, of which passes through the end of one of the gates, and the hooks are extended on each side of the gate-frame so as to fasten into eyes, D, also placed on both sides of the opposite gate. As the hooks are formed in one piece it follows that they can be operated indifferently from either side of the gate. It is obvious that the same principle of construction may be applied to .a single gate and stationary gate post. i
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. a gate latch formed by duplicate hooks C, attached to a common shank, C, operating simultaneously on both sides of the gate, substantially as set forth.
2. The combinationof the sliding gates A A, double posts B, rollers B, latch O, and eyes D, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereofl have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
