UNITED ASTATES PATENT QEEICE.
DANIEL T. KIssAM, oE NEW YoRIQ-N. Y.
POCKET SAFETY ATTACH M ENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 630,544, dated August 8,- 1899.
Application filed April 21, 1899. Serial No. 713,927. (No model.)
T0 @ZZ whom, it rmty concern:
Be it known 'that I, DANIEL T. KISSAM, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pocket Safety Attachments; and I do hereby declare thefollowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable 0thers skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same;
My invention relates to improvements in pocket safety attachments; and the object of the invention is to produce a simple and inexpensive device adapted to be applied to the pocket of a vest for the purpose of engaging and retaining against accidental displacement or pilfering the watch of the wearer and which will yet permit of a ready disengagement and withdrawal of the watch by the wearer when it is desired.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will hereinafter appear, and the novel features thereof will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims. A
Referring t0 the drawings, Figure l is a view showing my attachment in position upon a vest, the outline of the watch being shown by dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical sectional view through the vest-pocket, showing the device in position and in engagement with the watch. Fig. 3 is a detail of the device, the head or button forming a part thereof being shown in section." Fig. 4 is a perspective View of the device, the same being shown asin a separated condition, as when in the act of applying the same to the pocket of a vest.
Similar numerals of reference indicate similar parts in all of the figures of the drawings.
My safety attachment comprises two partsnamely, a button or head l, which is preferablyconvexed on its outer side and which may be given any external design or configuration desired and which is preferably dat on its inner side, and a clasp portion 2, which latter I will now proceed to describe in detail.
The clasp portion 2 comprises a disk-like base portion 3, from the center of which, at its front, projects in axial alinement therewith a threaded stud 4, designed to be passed through the outer wall 5 of the pocket of a vest or other garment and to enter and engage with the threads of a corresponding perforation 6, formed in the rear face of the button or head l. In this manner it will be seen that the rear face of the button or head being flat, and likewise the disk-like base 3, the outer wall of the pocket will be clamped securely between the two, so that the attachment is held securely in position and can only be removed by nnscrcwing either the button 0r the clasp portionan operation that could not be carried on withoutV the knowledge of the wearer and hence impossible upon the part of a pickpocket. Y
From the rear side of the disk-like base-plate .3 there extends a pair of spring-like clasps 7 the two members of which extend parallel a short distance, are then bowed, as indicated at 8, are then converged, as at 9, and finally diverged at their terminals, forming a flared entrance 10.
In practice after the attachment is in position the Watch is inserted in the pocket in the usual manner, the stem of the watch be; ing pressed between the members comprising the spring-clasp 7 until it passes between the bowed portions 8 thereof, at which time the said members lightly'gri p the same, preventing an upward withdrawal of the watch without a previous disengagement of the stem of the same with the clasp. It will be observed that any falling out of the pocket of the watch or any pilfering of the same becomes an impossibility when once the watch is in engagement. By inserting the finger between the stem of the watch and the wall of thepocket the stenl can be forced inward and after disengaged can be readily withdrawn. As a matter of fact by the employment of my attachment any real necessity of a chain is obviated, and the latter may be used or not, as may be desired.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The herein-described pocket safety attachment, the same comprising a button having a threaded opening, and a clasp member comprising a base, a threaded stem extending axially therefrom and adapted to engage the. threaded opening of the button, and a spring-clasp extending from the opposite or IOO rear side of the base and adapted to en gage the stem of a Watch.
2. The herein-described pocket safety attachment, the same consisting of the button having a flat inner face provided with it threaded opening, the corresponding Hat disk-like base-plate 3, the stem 4 extending axially therefrom and adapted to engage the threaded opening of the button, and the clasp 7, consisting of the spring members bowed as Io at 8 and bent as at 9, producing the flared opening l0 to the Said clasp.
In testimony whereof I aflx my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
