CUFF-HOLDER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 630,237, dated August 1, 1899.

Be it known that l, JOSEPH JUNGBAUER, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cuff-Holders, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

My invention relates to improvements in cuff-holders, and has for its object to provide a device which shall be simple in construction, easy of manipulation, and efiicient in use.

The cuff-holder comprisesjn general terms, a rotatable button located at one end of the bar of the cuff-holder, which button is adapted to pass through the buttonhole of a cuff and is held against accidental rotation by springjaws bearing against an indented head on the lower end of the shank of the button. The other end of the bar of the cuff-holder is provided with a double clasp to engage the sleeve of a shirt to which the cuit is to be fastened.

vTo more fully understand the invention, 'reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved cuff-holder. Fig. 2 is a bottom view of the same. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section.

1 designates the cuff-holder bar, which is provided at one end with a clamp 2, comprising the laterally-extending spring-actuated .jaws 3 4 to engage the sleeve of the shirt to which the cui? is to be attached. The two parts of the clamp 2 are provided with ears 5, through which a pivot-pin 6 is passed. The opposite end of the bar of the cuff-holder is enlarged, as at 7, and this enlargement is cut out to form or receive the spring-jaws S, the free ends of which are provided with projections 9, the object of which will be hereinafter described.

Secured near the end of the enlargement 7 of the bar of the cuff-holder is a rigid post or upright 10, having a vertical passage 11 to receive the shank l2 of the button 13, and in which the said shank is adapted to rotate. The button 13 is elongated to facilitate its passage through the buttonhole of a cud and is of a thickness equal to that of the standard 1,0. The lower end of the shank 12 is provided with a head 14, having indentations 15 at diametrically opposite points, and these indentations are adapted to be engaged by the projections at the free ends of the spring-jaws 8, whereby accidental rotation of the button is obviated.

In operation the button 13 is rotated to lie in a plane with the post 10, in which position it is held against rotation by the engagement of the projections 9 of the spring-jaws 7 with the indentations 11 of the head 14 of the button-shank. The button is then passed through the buttonhole of the cuff, after which it is turned at a right angle to the standard 10 and is held in this position by the spring-jaws 8, the projections 9 engaging the indentations in the head 14 adjacent thereto, and the cuff cannot be detached from the holder until the button is turned so as to be parallel with the buttonhole of the cuff.

Having thus described my invention, I claim@- 1. In a cuff-holder, the combination of the bar having an opening at one end, spring-jaws located in the opening, and a rotatable button having an indented head adapted to be engaged by the spring-jaws, substantially as set forth.

2. In a cuff-holder, the combination of the bar having an opening, spring-jaws integral with the bar and extending into the opening, and a rotatable button adapted to be engaged by the spring-jaws, substantially as set forth.

In a cuit-holder, the combination of the bar having an opening at one end, spring-jaws integral with the bar and extending into the opening, and a rotatable button, the shank of which is provided with an indented head adapted to be engaged and held by the springjaws, substan'tially as set forth.

4. In a cu-holder, the combination of the bar, a rigid post having a passage therethrough secured to the end thereof, a button, the shank of which is adapted to rotate in the passage of the post, a head at the lower end of the shank having indcntations, and springjaws integral with the bar adapted to engage the indentations in the head to hold the button against rotation,substantially as set forth.

5. In a cud-holder, the combination of the bar having an opening, spring-jaws integral with the said bar and extending into said open- IOO of the post, a head at the lower end of the shank having indentations, and spring-jaws having projections to engage the indentations in the said head, substantially as set forth.
