JAMES GROUTAGE, OF REDOANON, WYOMING, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO WVITJLIAIVLFOLSOM BUCK, OF ALMY, WYOMING.
SELF-LUBRICA TING AXLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 622,003, dated March 28, 1899.
Application filed October 27, 1898. Serial No. 694,690. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JAMES GROUTAGE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Redcanon, in the county of Uinta and State of WVyomin g, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Self-Lubricating Axles for Mining-(Jars; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in self-lubricating axles, and more particularly to that class employed on mining-cars; and the object is to provide a simple, convenient, and durable device of this character.
To this end the invention consists in certain features of construction and combination of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
The accompanying drawings show my invention in the best form now known to me; but many changes in the details might be made within the skill of a good mechanic without departing from the spirit of the invention as set forth in the claim at the end of this specification.
The same reference characters indicate the same parts of the invention.
In the drawings, Figure l is a bottom plan view of one end of a mining-car, showing my improved self-lubricating axle-bearing in position. Fig. 2 is a top plan View of the same detached from the car. longitudinal section. Fig. 4 is a vertical transverse section.
1 1 denote the car-Wheels, which are rigidly fixed on the outer ends of the axle 2. 3 and 4 denote the upper and lower members of the bearing-box; which extend the entire width of the car and are secured to the bottom of the car by means of the bolts 5 5.
6 6 denote an annular oil-chamber, and 7 7 collars fixed on the axle and abutting against the outer ends of the bearing-box.
8 8 denote removable screw-plugs for supplying the chamber 6 with oil or other lubricant.
Having thus fully described the invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
' In a journal-box for car-axles, an approximately plane bed-plate 3, in combination with an approximately V-shaped boxing 4 removably secured to said bed-plate, and having Fig. 3 is a vertical 7 bearing-surfaces formed in its end walls, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JAMES 'GROUTAGE.
