UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE."
JOHN M. HOFFMIRE, OF RED BANK, NEW JERSEY.
DRAWER-CENTERING DEVICE.
' SPECIFICATION forming part of Letterslatent No. 628,322, dated July 4, 1899.
Application filed May 5, 1897. Serial No. 635,133. (No model.)
and exact description.
This invention relates to devices for ,cen-
' tering drawers in a case; and the object is to provide a simple means whereby the several drawers mounted to slide in both directions in a case will be substantially centered when closed, thus preventing the drawers, or any one of them, from being slid too far inward from either side of thecase.
I will describe my invention and then point out the novel features in the appended claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a case of drawers embodying my invention. Fig- 2 is a perspectiveview of one of the drawers. Fig. 3 is a partial section and partial elevation of the case of drawers, and Fig. 4 is a section on the line 4. 4 of Fig. 3.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates a case, and 2 indicates drawers therein. The case is openv at its opposite ends, and the inner surfaces of its side Walls are provided with channels 3, forming runways for the outwardly-extended flanges 4 onthe sides of the drawers.
The flanges 4 extend the entire length of the drawers, and one flange of each drawer is provided between its ends with a depression 5, the bottom of which is longitudinally curved. This depression is shown at the center of the flange but it is obvious that it may be located at any other point between the ends.
Adapted to engage in the recess when the drawer is closed is a stop-dog 6, rounded on its lower side and movable vertically in a recess 7 in a side wall of the case. The dog is mounted on a spring-plate 8, secured at one end to the wall of the case. The ends of the flange 4, in which the recess is formed, will preferablybe beveled downward and outward, as indicated at 9, so that when the drawer is pushed inward the dog engaging with a bevel will be forced upward and bear upon the surface of the flange. When the draweris pushed wholly within the case or to its proper closed position, the dog will be forced into the recess, indicating that the drawer is centered.
Owing to the rounding of the recess 5 and the dog 6, it is obvious that with a little force the drawer may be pulled outward in either direction, the dog automatically releasing the drawer.
Having thus described my invention, I
, claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A case open at its opposite ends and having slideway-channels in its opposite walls, a drawer having flanges to engage in the channels, one of said flanges being provided with a recess between its ends, a rounded stop-dog for engaging in said recess, and a spring attached to the case and upon which the dog is mounted, substantially as specified.
2. A case open at its opposite ends and having slideway-channels in its opposite walls, a drawer having flanges to engage in the channels, one of said flanges being provided with a recess between its ends, a rounded stop-dog for engaging in said recess, the said flange being beveled at its ends, and a spring attached t0 the case and upon which the dog is mounted, substantially as specified.
