Description

N1 PETERS. MOTO-LITHOGMPHER, WASHINGTON, D C.
@other faire gettati@ifi-nrey JQHN4 R.. FISH AND' HOMER C. HARTMAN, OF FORT WAYNE, INDIANA. Letters Pate/nt .-No. 61,181, dated January-15, 1867.
IMPROVEMENT IN' STEAM GENERATORSL IO ALL WHUM IT MAY CONCERNE l Be it known that'we, `JHN R. FISH and HOMER C. HARTMAN, of FrtWayne, inthe county of Allen, and State of Indiana, .have invented a new and useful Improvement inA Heatersfor Steam Boilers; and we do hereby declare that the following is a4 full, clear, andl exact description of the construction of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings making apart of this specificatiomin which Figure 1 vis a perspective view.
Figure 2, atransverse section of the heater and a longitudinal section of the check-valve and pipe and the blow-oi` pipe- 'Ihe same letters are employed in referring to the saine parts in the-diiferent figures.
A is part of the nre-box 'and part of the line-sheet of a locomotive-or other boiler. B is the heater and. steam generator, which is a hollow vessel of any form most convenent,.and placed in the fire-box or furnace in such manner as to be heated by the direct action ofthe rire before the=lieat passes through the lues of the boiler. The heater B is 'supplied by the pump forcing the water throughthe pipeC and check-valve C. The water is at the saine timeforced from the opposite end of the heater intothe boiler through the supply pipe D. E is a blow-oh' pipe attachecl'to the heaterandclosed bya-cock, E this is used'fo'r cleansing the heater.
What we claim' as our invention, and seek to secure by Letters Patent, is not broadly for a heater placed in the fire and connected with the boiler, for we are aware that heaters have Abeen applied to ordinary boilers, such heater being placed in the fire-chamber ofthe furnace; but such heaters are not, as constructed, applicable to tubularv or iiuid boilers having a {ire-box; and therefore-we claim-herein l. The heater Bwhen placed'inside the fire-box of a-tubular'or Hue boiler in such manner as to be exposed to the direct'action oi the iire, before the heat passes through the ilues of"th`e boiler, in combination with the pipe C and check-vaive C vand pipe D; arranged substantially as set forth- 2. In combination with the heater B, we claim the blow-oft` pipe'E, arranged 'substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereot` we have signedour names to-this specication in.-A the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
