Description
- tino faire 'strut @frn HENRY' AN D ALBERT LOVIE, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
l Letters Patent No. 61,745, dated.' February 5, 1867.
IMPROVED minimum-FDHuns.`
TOALL 1NHOM IT MAY CONCERN Bev it known that'we, HENRY LoVIE, of the city and county of Philadelphia, and `State of Pennsylvania', andvALBERT LOVIE, oi' Prussia, now residing in the city and county of Philadelphia., and State of Pennsylvania have invented an improved WindoW'nCurtuin and Shaded-leider; and we'do hereby declare that the following is a fullfclear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
Our invention consists of a j'amb-plate, which has a bracket or guid fixed at or near each end, projectingr outwardly g through openings or guide-holes formed in the said brackets a Vrod is received, having aperi'ectly free longitudinal motion, the lower end of said rod having a screw formed on it, on which', a nut, bearing the bottom surface of the lower bracket, is screwed; about midway of the rodv a cage is formed for taking the cordpulley, re'volving 4on an axis bearing in theV sides of the cage. AOn reference to the accompanying drawing, which'forms-a part of this speciicationvFigure 1 is a front view; and I v Figure 2 is a side view.
Similar letters referto similanparts in the two views. Y
A is a jamb-plate which is fixed to the jau'ab of a window. B B are brackets or guides, one secured to each end vof the jainb-plate and projecting outwardly7 from it. There is a guide-hole formed in each bracket, through which the rod C slides back'and forth, having a. perfectly free longitudinal motion, and isguided and kept in place by the said brackets. screw, b,`l is formed on. the lower end of the rod C; a nut, e, takes on the screw, and when the curtain-holder is in use, the bottom of the nut bears against the bottom or outer surface of the lower. bracket, the said nut being milled for convenience in turning. About midway ,between the ends of the rodka pulley-cage, D, is formed, making part of the rod; its sides are left open for inserting a pulley, d, which revolves in it, on an axis bearing inzthe front and back. Then the shade-holder is to be put in' use it isfixed to thejnmb ofl thewindow at'a convenient distance from the shade-roller; the roller-cord e is--then passed over the wheelyon the end of the shade-roller, and through the cage D, under the pulley d, taking into the grooves in the wheel and pulley; the nut e is then rotated ony its screw in the direction for either raisingorlowering the rod, as mayrbe required. The cage D beinga part of the rod, raises or lowers with and consequently loosens or tightens vthe shade. Tile pulley d increases the facility for raising and lowering the shade, and decreases the wear and tear of the cord by lessening the friction.
What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Let-ters Patent, is-f l The sliding,- screw rod C, having a pulley-cage, D, formed in it, in which the pulley d is. contained, substantially as specified and' described. v
In .testimonywhereof we hereunto sign our names to this specification in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
