UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES W. RUBY, BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
' HOSE RACK OR SUPPORT.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 603,207, dated April 26, 1898. Application filed November 9, 1897. Serial No. 657,947.. (No model.)
To all whom it maly concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES W. RUBY, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hose Racks or Supports, of which the following is a specification.
By means of this invention a hose rack or support can be readily secured in place at a conduit or water-pipe, as set forth in the following specification and claims, and illustrated in the annexed drawings, in which Figure 1 is a-side elevation of a rack embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of Fig.1.
A conduit or water-pipel has a threaded portion projecting from wall 2 to receive the nut or threaded portion'3 of a valve 4, having actuating-handle 5 and adapted for the coupling or connecting thereto of hose 6. These parts may all be of well-known construction.
A rack is shown with a frame or rear portion at 7, such rear section 7 being adapted to sit about the pipe 1, so as to be supported by the latter. A suitable eye or annular seat 8 of frame part 7 will sit about or slip onto pipe 1. This frame-section 7 being slid onto pipe 1 and the nut 3 or valve 4 then secured in place, the frame will be held or secured by the valve against wall 2. Lateral supports, such as prongs or points 9, applied or formed at a suitable distance from the center of eye part 8, can be made to pierce or grip into the wall as the valve 4 forces the rack-section 7 into place. Such lateral .supports 9 prevent the rack from being upset or leaving its proper position. The rack or frame is formed by this back section or rear part 7, cross pieces or rods 10, and front section 11. The entire rack, with prongs 9, can be cast or formed from one piece of metal or material if seen fit. The hose being suitably laid or supported 'on the rack is ready for use when required. The rear section 7 of the rack being dropped below the front section 11, such depending rear part is adapted for the formation of the eye or annular seat 8. The front section be ing made to rise above the rear section, as seen at 12, such rim or border 12 prevents the hose from slipping or accidentally dropping ofi the front of the rack. The crosspieces 10 being suitably spaced or set apart, the hose on the rack can sag somewhat into the spaces between these pieces 10, so as not to be liable to slip laterally or become accidentally dislodged.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A hose-support, consisting of a vertical back plate designed to rest against a wall, and having a pendent rigid eye at its lower portion, constructed to engage a water-supply pipe for the hose, a vertical front plate, connecting rods between said front and back plates, means for securing the eye on the water-supply pipe, and means for holding the hose-support and its eye against rotation on the pipe, substantially as and for the purposes described.
2. A hose rack or support comprising a front section, a rear section, and suitablyspaced cross-pieces made to connect the sections, the front section being made to rise above the rear section, and the rear section being dropped below the front section, such depending rear part having an eye or annular seat substantially as described.
3. A pipe threaded for the reception of a nut or valve, and a rack or supportadapted to be slipped or seated about such pipe and to be held by such nut, said rack having prongs or holders at its rear face so that the prongs are brought into action as the-rack with the nut are moved home substantially as described. a
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CHARLES W. RUBY.
