FREDERICK WV. ATKINSON, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
ELECTRIC RAIL-BOND.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 601,458, dated March 29, 1898.
Application filed October 4,1897. $e1'ialN0.654,032. (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FREDERICK WV. ATKIN- SON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Electric Rail-Bonds; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
Figure 1 is an elevation of my device with one of the rivet-heads partly broken away. Fig. 2 is a plan, and Fig. 3 an elevation, of a modified form of bond.
My bond consists of a number of strips or wires a a, &c., of copper or other good 0011- ducting material, the ends of which are anchored in rivet-heads B in any suitable man ner. These strips or Wires 0, may be formed by the combination of a single wire, as in Fig. 1, or they may consist of a number of short strips, as in Fig. 3; but in any case to conform to my invention each must be bent at an angle, so that when secured together the result will he a bond approximately such as shown in the drawings, one in which each strand is subjected to the same strain as every other one, and therefore the strands will always lie close together.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is An electric rail-bond consisting of two or more strips or wires which are bent together into two angles to approximate the form of the letter Z and terminally held together in the same plane by securing-rivets, as and for the purpose set forth.
FREDERICK W. ATKINSON.
