Be it known that I, LOUIS DEVEAU, a citizen of the United States, residing at Springfield,

Vable poultry or stock to be driven therein, as

into a house or pen, or housed by being placed into the coop or removed therefrom through a sliding top.

For a full understanding of the merits and advantages of the invention reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings and the following description.

The improvement is susceptible of various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction without departing from the principle or sacricing any of the advantages thereof, andto a full disclosure of the invention an adaptation thereof is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of a coop constructed in accordance with this invention, parts being broken away. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view showing the parts separated, the cover or top being omitted.

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.

A coop, box, shipping-case, or crate possessing the essential features of this invention embodies in its organization a bottom l, sides 2, ends 3 and 4, and a top 5, one of the sides and a corresponding end being hinged together.

Any suitable material may be employed in the construction of the coop or case according to its use, and as the invention is designed more particularly for poultrycoops the top,

sides, and ends are formedof open or wire work to secure air and ventilation essential to thehealthfulness of the poultry or stock.

The sides 2 are similarly formed and have inner ledges 6 at their lower edges and longitudinal guideways 7 at `theirupper edges, formed between inner parallel ledges. The endsmay be conveniently designated as the .front 3 and back 4, the latter being hinged at one end to one of the sides and the front 3 being hinged to the other side at the end diagonally opposite the hinge connection between the back 4 and the sidente which itis joined. The back 4 has inner parallel ledges 8 at its lower edge and corresponding ledges 9 at its upper edge, the pairs of ledges being spaced apart a sufficient distance so as to snugly receive between them the ends of the top and bottom, respectively. The front 3 has an inner ledge l0 at its lower edge and in conjunction with the ledges 6 and 8 supports thebottom 1. The free ends of the front and back are provided with eyes ll, which are engaged by corresponding hooks l2, applied to the free ends of the sides, and when these hooks are engaged with the eyes ll the coop is held irmly in condition for service, and by disengaging the hooks from the eyes the coop can be quickly taken apart and reduced to a knockdown condition for` economy handling.

The cover or top is slidably mounted in the ways 7, thereby admitting of poultry being placed intothe coop or removed therefrom without necessitating the provision of a dooror the opening of one of the ends.

Should it be required to quickly empty a coop or to drive the poultry therein without having to handle each, either end may be loosened by releasing it from the hooks 12, after which it can be thrown open,vwhereby of space in storing, shipping, and

full ingress and egress to the interior of the coop are had;

When setting up the coop, the parts are placed about as shown in Fig. 2, and after the free ends of the sides and end portions are brought together and secured by engaging the hooks 12 with the eyes ll the top or cover is slid into position in the Ways 7, when IOO the coop is in condition to be used in the manner set forth and as will be readily understood.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1. Inashipping-crate, Ithe combination of sides and ends hingedly connected in pairs, and provided with guideways parallel with their uppr edges, means for connecting the pairs of sides and ends at their free edges, a bottom supported by the sides and ends,Y and a top slidably fitted in saidguideways, substantially as specified.

2. In a shipping-crate, the combination of foldably-connected side and end wallsprovided at their upper edges with alined guideways, a bottom removably supported between the side walls with its edges in contact with the inner surfaces thereof, and a cover removably fitted to slide in said guideways, substantially as speciiied.

3. In a poultry-coop, shipping-case or the like, the combination of sides having inner ledges at their lower edges and longitudinal guideways at their upper edges, a front hinged to one of the sides atits end and having an inner ledge at its lower edge, a back hinged to the other side and provided with parallel ledges at its upper and lower edges, means for detachably connecting the free ends of the front, back and sides, a bottom vresting upon the lower ledges, and a top slidably mounted in the aforesaid guideways, substantially'as described.
