MCINTOSH, of New York, in the county of New York and State otNew York, have invented certain new anduseful Improvements in Rotaryllowers; and l do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description oi the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part oi. this speciiieation, and l o l he letters ot' 'reference marked thereon.
This invention relates'to improven'icnts in appa ratus l'or creati ng a draft of air, and more especially such as are designed for supplying,r air and moisture to steam-boiler furnaces or furnaces of a like nature; and -the invention consists in certain novel features of construetion and combinations and arrangements of parts,- all aswill be now pointed out, and described particularly in the appended claims.

or, in other words, an engine in whiehthe propelling power is obtainedgby discharging jietmof steam or other lluid from radial arms 'through apertures pointed 'in the direction eontraryrto the direction ot' rotation of the motor. Upon this react ionary motor I mount a series of inclined vanes or paddles of any approved form, which by their rotation drive the air in one direction or the other in aeeordance with well-known principles, and. in order that the action of the motive fluid may not counteract the effect of the-vanos in propelling; air forwardly'thc.passage ofthe motivo lluid through the ilischarge-apertnres is linterrupted or `arrested save throughout a small proportion ol' the circumference of the device.

, In the upper side of the shaft A and in position to register withthe passages e I form a port or slot H,thc length of which determines the number of radial arms which shall take steam or into ,which the motive lluid shall flow at any one time'. Thus in the structure shown, as the h'nb rotates, the passages e are successively .brought into registry with the port, and the port is of such length'that but i' three arms are Iin registry at any one time, the remaining arms during the balance et' their rotation being allowed to exhaust or discharge their confined steam without opposing the passage of the air through the propeller or blower.
Obviously the length ot the port Il maybe varied without departing,r from the spirit ot my invention; but I prefer that it should lie-- oii sufficient length only to supply the radial 'arms with motivo il uid throughout a small pro;

If desired, a hood or annular guard, such as K, may be employed to inelose the blower and direct the blast to any desired point, and where the shaft A is a Iixed snalt this hood maybe supp 'nl'.ed by radial arms, such as la, secured to thc shaft by a hub it" or other wellknown structure.
Where the blower is used for the purpose of su} plying air to a furnace, it will be seen that the steam.l which in this instance should radial arms after form tho motive fiuid, at once supplies mois ture and obviates the neeessibyof employing a speciali means to moisten tiile air, more espeeiaiiy as time steam discharged through the having lost its force is caught by the vanos au carried on with the air and thoroughly eommingled therewith.
