Description

Patented July 26, |898. G. G. WILLIAMS. TRDUSERS HANGER.
Application Bled Feb. 16 1898.)
(N0 Mo'del.)
mmap,
GEORGE G. WILLIAMS, OF CI-IARLEVOIX, MICI-IIGAN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 608,092, dated July 26, 1898.
Application filed February 16, 1898. Serial No. 670,541. (No model.)
To all wir/0m, it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE G. WILLIAMS,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Charlevoix, in the county of Charlevoix and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trousers-Hangers; andIdo declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in trousers-hangers, and more particularlj7 to that class which are arranged to crease the lower ends of the legs and suspend the inverted trousers clear of the floor; and the object is to provide a simple, inexpensive, and convenient, as well as durable, device of this kind.
To this end the invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of the device, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
The accompanying drawings show my Vinvention in the best form now known to me; but many changes in the details might be made within the skill ofa good mechanic without departing from the spirit of my invention` as set forth in the claim at the end of this specification.
Figure l is a perspective view of my improved trousers-hanger as it appears in use. Fig. 2 is a transverse section.
'l and 2 denote the parallel clamping-jaws, connected at their upper edges by the springhinges 3 3, both hinges being similar in construction and formed with the parallel rectangular prongs l land 5, which are secured in the upper edges of the clamping-jaws, so as to permit the jaws to separate and approach each other in parallel planes.
6 6 represent the looped wire handles, fixed at acute angles to each other in the upper parallel edges of the jaws.
7 7 denote parallel strips pivoted to the contiguous ends of the jaws, s o that when the looped handles are brought together the inner faces of the jaws will be separated in parallel planes.
The handles are pressed together to open the jaws while the lower ends of the trousers are being properly adjusted -in place between them. The jaws lare now brought together and by the combined tension of the springhinges 3 3 firmly clamp and press the trousers- `legs between them, so that they are creased and pressed at the same time. The trousers, with the hanger attached, are now reversed and suspended by one or the other of the looped handles 6 6 from a suitable hook or peg, so that the entire weight of the trousers is sustained by the hanger, and it will thus be seen that while they remain in this position the device performs the combined oflce of a hanger, presser or creaser, and stretcher.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, 1s-
An improved trousers-hanger comprising the parallel jaws l and 2 formed with contiguous parallel plane faces, the spring-hinges 3 3 connecting the upper edges of the outer ends of said jaws, and the independent diverging looped handles secured to the upper edges of the jaws and means whereby said jaws will travel to and from each other in parallel planes, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In' testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witn nesses.
DANL. G. WILLAMS, Enw. STOVER.
