GEORGE LISTMANN', OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
COAT.
sPEcIFIcATIoN forming part of Letters Patent No. 592,149, dated october 19, 1897. Application filed Aprulaiser. saturo. 631,897. (remodel.)
T0 all whom, it may concern: p p
Be it known that I, GEORGE LISTMANN, a citizen of the United States, residingin the city of Baltimore, State of Maryland, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Coats, of which the following is a specication.
My invention relates `to improvements in coats; and it consists of the novel construc-V tion and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed, whereby the skirt thereof may be readily attached or detached, as desired, from the waist thereof.
Figure l represents a perspective view of a coat embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a sectional view on line a; oc, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 represents the same parts shown in Fig. 2 separated from each other, so as to more clearly show the same.
Referring to the drawings, A designates the waist part, B the skirts, and O the cape, of the coat, each of said parts being detachable from each other.
The waist A is provided with a series of buttonholesF in its outer face, and on the flap E, which is secured to the lining of the said waist, are attached the buttons or other fastenings D. The upper portion of the skirt B is formed with a pocket G, and in the inner wall of said pocket is a series of buttonholes H, while on the inner face ofthe oppositenwall J of said pocket is a series of buttons K.
In order to fasten the skirt to the waist-,the lower end of the waist is inserted in the pocket of the skirt, and the buttons K o't the outer wall thereof are engaged in the buttonholes F of the waist, and the buttons D on the iap E are secured in the buttonholes H ofthe inner wall of the pocket G, the said iiap E lapping over and covering the upper edge of said inner wall.l y
The buttons or fastenings of the two series its ends being joined in front in any suitableA manner. Y
As will be observed, the skirt thus connected is readily, when desired, detachable from the waist, while at the same time it is reliably held in place on said waist.
I-Iaving thus described my invention, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent and claim isl. A garmenthaving a waistprovided with a flap on its inner face, a skirt having a pocket to receive the lower end of said waist, fastening means connecting said flap and waist with the inner and outer walls respectively-of said pocket and a belt covering the seam formed by the top of the skirt and the waist, said belt being suitably held in place on said skirt.
2. A garment having a waist provided with a iiap on its inner face `above and near the lower edge thereof and extending around the same, a skirt having a pocket at its upper end to receive the lower end of said waist, fastening means for securing said flap to the inner wall of said pocket and fastening means for securing the lower end of said waist to the outer wall of said, pocket, the respective fastening means for said flap and lower end of waist being staggered.
