PATENT AUGUSTUS K. MoKONE, on ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
CURLING-IRON HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 591,239, dated October 5, 1897.
' Application filed December 5, 1896. Serial No. 614,616. (No model.)
T aZZ whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, AUGUSTUS K. MCKONE, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ourlin g-Iron Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in holders for supportinga curling-iron'in position above the flame of a gas-burner in order to heat the iron, and has for its object to provide a holder adapted for attachment to a gasburner and adjustable relatively thereto in order to provide for heating irons of different lengths, and also capable of being folded in compact form alongside the burner after the curling-iron has been heated and removed.
In order tocarry these objects into practical effect, I have provided in a holder of the character described certain novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts, as will be hereinafter described, and set forth in the appended claims.
. In the accompanying drawings, illustrating the invention, Figure 1' is a side View showing the holder applied to a gas-burner and supporting a curling-iron. Fig. 2 is aperspective view of the holder detached from the burner and the curling-iron removed, Fig. 3 shows the holder lengthened for supporting long curling-irons. Fig. 4 shows the holder folded alongside the burner, as when not in use. j
The holder is made up of three arms, an inner arm a, an outer arm 6, and an intermediate connecting-arm c, jointed together, as shown. One end of the inner arm is jointed at a to an ear at one side of a clamp d,which engages the gas-burner E, and a screw F through the ears at the opposite side confines the two jaws of the clamp about the burner.
The free end of the outer arm carries a spring-clip or holder to support the curlingiron. This clipis made of two pieces of sprin g metal fitted together, each having two outwardly and inwardly bent spring-tangs g and.
a depending ear g, which latter are jointed to the free end of the outer arm 1), whereby the clip is adjustably mounted.
The manner of using the holder is fully shown in Fig. 1 of-the drawings, wherein a curling-iron is shown supported above the flame of a gas burner. Fig. 3 shows the burner adjusted to support a long-size curling-iron, and Fig. 4 shows how the holder is folded when not in use.
It will be seen from the above description, taken in connection with the drawings, that I have provided a Simple, cheap, and effective holder for the purpose described.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let ters Patent, is-
1. A holder for supporting curling-irons, comprising a clamp to engage a gas-burner, a clip to hold the curling-iron, and three jointed arms connecting said two parts, one of said arms having the said clip adj ustably mounted thereon.
2. A holderfor supporting curling-irons, comprising a clamp to engage a gas-burner, a series of jointed arms connected with said clamp, and a spring-clip constructed of two pieces of spring metal bent inwardly and outwardly to form spring-tangs g to engage the curling-iron and depending ears g, said ears being adj ustably mounted upon the free end of the outer jointed arm, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
AUGUSTUS K. MOKONE.
