Be it known that I, ELSIE D. J onus, residing at Terrace Park, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Thread-Outters, of which the following is a specification.

The object of my invention is to produce a twineand thread cutter which can be attached to the clothing in a position convenient for cutting.

The twine-cutters constructed as hereinafter described are cheap and effective and neat in appearance. At the same time the knife is securely anchored within the cutter, being secured at the top by a loop and at the bottom by a rivet, avoiding the use of solder, and the body of the cutter is made of a single piece of wire.

The features of my invention are more fully set forth in the description of the accompanying dra'wings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved twine-cutter. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a section on line no .r, Fig. 2. Fig. at is a central longitudinal section of the rivet. Fig. 5 is a plan view of the cutter.

The body of the cutter and pin are formed integral of asingle piece of wire.

A represents the pin, and B the knife-supportingloop, the main limb to of which extends downward and is turned around over the rivet O and passes up, bending slightly outward and looped around, forming the guard D, then returning, forming the limb b, passing around the rivet and upward parallel with the limb Ct until it reaches the top 6 of the knife,where it is wound around the upper portion of the limb a, forming an eye cl at its terminal end.

F represents the knife. It is pierced with a rivet-hole g at the bottom. The blade of theknife conforms in width to the width of thediameter of the coil around the rivet. The upper portion of the blade is provided with a recess h, in which the neck of the eye 01 seats, forming the upper fastening of the blade.

0 represents the rivet which passes through the loop of the coil at the base and through the rivet-hole of the blade, which is inserted between the two limbs of the coil. It is secured in position by heading the same preferably upon a washer 1'. It thus secures the knife firmly to the body of the cutter.

The limbs of the guard D are just sufficiently far apart to allow the blade of the knife to pass partially between them. This guard D is slightly flexible, which facilitates the cutting, and even very large twine may be readily severed. The knife, being secured at the base by the rivet through the coil, is non-yielding. By curving the upper portion of the guard outward a wide mouth is formed for the ready insertion of the thread or twine.

Having described my invention, I claim- 1. A thread-cutter consisting of a single piece of wire bent to form a pin, blade-support and guard, a rivet fixed in a loop formed at the base of the blade-support and guard, a blade mounted at its lower end on said rivet, and means for securing the upper end of the blade to said blade-support, substantially as described.

2. A twine-cutter having the body formed of a single piece of wire .bent to form a two limbed knife-support, and having a loop at the bottom and an eye 61 at the top of the limb, in combination with a knife F attached to the loop and eye, substantially as described.

3. In a twine-cutter the body thereof formed of a single piece of wire bent to form the twolimbed guard D, the knife-supporting limb,

and the pin A formed of one of the terminal ends of the Wire, the other terminal end of the wire forming an eye 01 coiled around the limb to, substantially as specified.

4:. A thread-cutter consisting of a single piece of wire bent to form a pin, a blade-support and a guard,terminating in a loop around the blade-supporting portion near the top, a blade secured between the blade-support and the guard by a rivet at the bottom, and the loop engaging with a notch in the blade at the top, substantially as specified.
