ALBERT R. MILNER, OF CANTON, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE A. R. MILNER SEATING COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
STORE OR COUNTERSTOOL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 597,686, dated January 18, 1898.
fipplication filed April 8,1895. Serial No. 545,019. (No model.)
have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Store or Counter Stools; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference hein g had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in which-- Figure 1 is a view showing two stools properly attached to a counter and illustrating the same placed in different positions. Fig. 2 is a detached view showing portions of the stool-arm and its bracket. Fig. 3 is a detached view of the spring. Fig. 4 is a View showing the stool-top placed in position for use orin a horizontal position.
The present inventionhas relation to store or counter stools; and it consists in the different parts and combination of parts hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all of the figures of the drawings.
In the'accompanying drawings, A represents the bracket, which is secured to the base of a counter or like object, and, as shown, it is provided with the opening a, which opening receives the bottom or lower end of the stoolarm B, which stool-arm is pivotally attached to the bracket A by means of a suitable cross bolt or bar, such as b.
To the top or upper end of the stool-arm B is attached-the stool (J, which stool may be of any desired kind or style and is held in proper position by means of the flange c, which flange is preferably formed integral with the stoolarm. The flange 0 is located at an angle to the stool-arm, the angle being of such a degree that when the stool-arm is brought forward the stool G will be brought into substantially a horizontal position, asillustrated in Figs. 1 and 1.
For the purpose of limiting the outward movement of the stool-arm B and at the same time providing a rest for said stool-arm and stool the stop (I is provided. For the purpose of automatically bringing the stool together, with its arm under the edge of the counter and out of the way, the spring D is provided, which spring is substantially of the form shown in Fig. 3, and, as shown, it is provided with the curls e.
The upper ends of the spring D are connected together by means of the curved connection f, which curved connection abuts against the stool-arm, as illustrated in the drawings. For the purpose of providing the proper action for the spring D the arms 1 are provided. I
For the purpose of providing a stool-arm that will properly bring the stool into position for use and at the same time carry the stool out of the way the arm 13 is curved substantially as illustrated in the drawings.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a counter-stool, a recessed floorbracket, a curved stool-arm pivoted in the bracket and engaging one of the walls of the bracket to form a stop to limit the outward movement of the arm, a spring encircling the pivot of the arm having extensions engaging, respectively, the stool-arm and bracket, a seat-plate formed on the upper end of the stool-arm and disposed in a plane substantially at right angles to the upper end of saidstool-arm when the latter is in a folded position, whereby the seat of the stool will fold close against the counter, the said angle of the seat-plate with the stool-arm being such as to cause the seat to lie in a horizontal plane when the latter is in position for use and a seat secured to the seat-plate.
2. In a store or counter stool, a recessed floor-bracket, an arm pivoted to the bracket and engaging one of the walls of the bracket to form a stop to limit the outward movement of the arm, a spring engaging the stool-arm and bracket respectively, a seat-plate formed on the upper end of said arm and so disposed in a plane at an angle to the upper end of said stool-arm that when the latter is in a folded position the seat of the stool will fold. hereunto subscribed my name in the presence close against the counter, the said angle of of two Witnesses. the seat-plate with arm being such as to cause 1 the seat to lie in a horizontal plane when the ALBERT MILNER' 5 latter is in position for use, and a seat secured Witnesses:
to the seat-plate, substantially as described. F. C. WOLCOTT,
In testimony that I claim the above I have F. "W. BOND.
