LAMPHBURNER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters` Patent No. 581,957, dated May 4, 189'?. Y
Application filed September 11,1895. Serial No. 562,130. (No model.)
To LZZ when?, it may concern:
Be it known that I, I-IENRY HAAR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bristol, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lamp-Burners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in lamp-burners; and the chief object of myinvention is to provide a simple and better man` ner of holding the chimney upon the burner.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure lis a plan view of a lamp-burner as provided with my chimney-holder. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same; and Fig. 3 is a vertical section of the same on the line :r Qc, together with the base of a chimney properly seated thereon, some parts of the burner being shown in elevation.
A designates a burner which may be of any ordinary construction. On the sides of the burner-cone I arrange my chimney-holders B. l have shown the burner as provided with four such holders, hut itis evident that if desired three of them would be ample to hold the chimney. Each holder is formed of a single piece of wire which is doubled upon itself in the middle to form the central holding-prong 4E, and then return-hends are made to form the two lower holding-prongs 5, after which the ends of the wire are coiled to form the springs 6, and their extreme ends or shanks are passed through holes in the cone, where they may be secured with solder or otherwise, as shown at 7 in Fig. 3, or in lieu thereof the springs may be soldered or otherwise secured directly to the sides of the cone.
The holders are arranged so that when in their normal position, as shown in Figs. l and 2, the upper or middle prongs 4 are within a circle of a less diameter than the base of the chimney C, while the lower prongs 5 incline outwardly therefrom and occupy a circle which is larger than the base of the chimney.
To secure a chimney, it is only necessary to force it down over the chimney-holding arms, which as the chimney forces the lower prong 5 inwardly will have a tendency to force the upper prongs outwardly, deilecting the prongs from the position shown in Figs. l and 2 to that shown in Fig. 3. Each holder hears upon the inside of the chimney at three points-a central upper point and two widelyseparated lower points-wherebythe chimney is very firmly and securely held in place,
while at the same time the construction is cheap and simple.
By spreading the bearing-points of each holder laterally there is no tendency to twist the holders out of place by revolving the chimney, and, in short, the device is very durable and not likely to get out of order, although the construction is simple and inexpensive.
I claim as my invention- In a lamp-burner, the holders each consisting of the central and upwardly-projecting prong, the two lower downwardly-projecting prongs and springs, by which the holders are connected to the burner, substantially as described and for the purpose specified.
HENRY I-IAAB.
