Be it known that I, AUGUSTUS E. STRANG, of Salem,`in the county of Marion and State of Oregon,have invented a new and Improved Bedstead, of which the following is a' full, clear, and eXact description.

This invention is an iron bedstead having tubular side rails and angle-iron end rails, of such peculiar construction that the bed is made very durable whenthe parts are assembled, and that the bed may be easily taken down for transportation.

This specification is the disclosure of one form of my inventon,while the claims'dene the actual scope of the conception.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention. Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective view of one of the clamps. Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the invention on the line 3 3 of Fig. 5. Fig. 4 is a sectional view of the invention on the line 4 4 of Fig. 5. Fig. 5 is an enlarged plan view of one of the connections between the posts and the side and end rails and Fig. 6 is a sectional view on the line 6 6 of Fig. 5.

The head-posts 7 and the foot-posts 8 are joined in pairs by the tubular side rails 9 and the angle-iron end rails 10,which side and end rails are joined to the postsl by means of clamping devices which will now be described.

Each clamping device consists in a main section having curved portions 11 .lying against the corresponding post and in tubular sockets 12, receiving the adjacent end of the side rail that is connected to the clamp. Bearing against the curved portion 1l of each clamp is a cap-plate 13, between which and the curved portion 11 the corresponding post 8 is clamped by an eyebolt 14, extending hori- Zontally through the post and through the clamp, and holding in its eye a vertical bolt 15,extending through the adjacent end of the corresponding side rail 9 and through the corresponding socket 12.

An angle-iron bracket 16 is cast integral with each curved portion 11. The brackets 1G project inward and the two pairs respectively carry the an gle-iron end rails 10,which are laid over the bracketsl and held rigidly thereon by bolts 17. The top or horizontal member of each end rail has the fabric 1S of the bed clamped thereon by means of a clamping-plate 19, secured to the respective end railsl by means of bolts 20.

The construction of the clamps securely hold the side and end rails in connection with the posts and makes a very rigid and strong structure. The parts may be readily disconnected to reduce the size of the bed and permit it to be carried through small passages. The bolt 14, engaging the bolt 15, draws the parts 11, 13, and 9 in very rigid connection. By passing the bolt through the parts 9 and 12 to hold the same together the formation of threads on the parts 9 is avoided,which formation materially weakens the tubing.

Having thus described my invention, l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A clamp for bedsteads, the clamp having a main section with a socket, the clamp also having a cap, a bolt passed through the socket, and a second bolt in connection with.

the first bolt and passing through the main section of the -clamp to engagement with the cap.

2. A clamp for bedsteads, the clamp having a main section, and a cap, the main section having a socket witha bracket running outward therefrom,a bolt passed transversely through the socket, and asecond bolt in oonnection with the first-named bolt and running through the two sections of the clamp to hold them together.

3. A bedstead having round posts and round side rails and angle-iron end rails, and a clamp for each post by which to hold the end and side rails thereto, each clamp consisting in a main section and a cap-section, the main section. having a curved portion to lie against the corresponding post, and the main section also having a tubular socket to receive theadjacent end of the corresponding side rail, and also having a bracket run laterally from the socket to hold the adjacent end of the corresponding end rail, a bolt run through the socket and through the adjacent side-rail end, and a second bolt connected to the first IOO bolt and run through the two sections of the through the said portion adapted to bezu- ClampX to hold them together. against the piu-t of the bedsteacl.
