BERRY BUCKET.
Patented Aug. 24, 1897.
i l n l .2 151 UNITED STATES ATENT OFFICE.
VILLIAM IV. ROLAND, OF EMIGSVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
BERRY-BUCKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 588,930, dated August 24, 1897.
Application filed April 23, 1897.
.To a/ZZ whom t may concern,.-
Beit known that I, WILLIAM W. ROLAND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Emigsville, in the county of York and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Berry-Bucket, of which the following is a specification. Y
My invention relates to an improved berrybucket; and it has for its object the production of a bucket comprising a plurality of sections adapted to be removably secured one to the other, each section being open at the top and closed at the bottom, whereby the berries deposited in one section are kept separate from the berries in any of the other sections.
The invention will first be described in connection with the accompanying drawings, and then pointed out in the claims.
Figure l of the drawings is a perspective View of my improved berry-bucket. Fig. 2 is a vertical central section of the same. Fig. 3 is a plan view of one of the spouted vsections.
Referring to the drawings, A represents my improved berry-bucket, comprising a plural# ity of independent sections, preferably three in number, a, b, and c, respectively.
The upper section a, open at top and closed at bottom, is provided on its upper end with a handle or bail 1 and .on its lower end with two vertically projecting outwardly-curved segmental flanges 2, arranged diametrically opposite each other, the lower edge of the section as well as the edges of the flanges 2 being bound with a deflected continuous wire 3, which projects inwardly from the iianges, as shown in Fig. 2. The centralsection b, open at top and closed at bottom, is also provided on its lower edge withtwo segmental flanges 2, bound with wire 3, exactly similar to the flanges on section c. The central section b, and also the lower section c, which is likewise open at top and closed at bottom, are provided on their upper edges with two verticallyprojectinginwardly-curved segmental flanges 4, bound with wires 5, the Wires in this instance projecting outward from the iianges,
as seen in Fig. 2. These sections b and c are also provided with openings 6 in the sides nearthe upper edges, which openings establish communication between the interi-or of each section and a spout 7, secured on the serial No. 633,512. (No mais.)
outer side of each section, as shown in the drawings.
In assembling the sections the fianges 4 on the upper edges of the central and lower sections are inserted in the flanges 2 of the upper and central sections, the sections being turned until the flanges fully register, the curved portions of the flanges snugly fitting each other. j
By thepuse of my improved berry-bucket I am enabled to carry as many berries as in a bucket of similar size made of but one section and yet avoid the weight of the berries crushing thosein the lower` portion of the bucket, as the sections are entirely independent from each other.
It will also be seen that, if desired, the sections may be made of predetermined holding capacity, sayone quart, thus saving a remeasuring and rehandling of the berries.
Having thusdescribed my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, iis-'- i' l. A berry-bucket comprising a plurality of sections, each formed with vertically-proj ecting segmental iianges arranged diametrically opposite each other and provided with deflected continuous binding-wires adapted to interlock with similar flanges on the section next below, whereby when the sections are assembled a space is left between them, as and for the purposes stated.
2. A berry-bucket comprising an upper section, a central section, and a lower section, each of the sections being formed with vertically-projecting segmental anges provided with deflected continuous binding-wires arranged diametrically opposite each other and adapted to be interlocked with the iianges on the other sections when the sections are assembled, the central section and the lower section being each provided with a spouted opening,'whereby the sections may be filled after being assembled to form the bucket.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presenceof two witnesses.
WILLIAM W2 ROLAND.
