TOILET-PAPER HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 586,128, dated July 13, 1897.
Application filed Julyl'l, 1896. Serial No.599,525. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANK l-I. HOBERG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Green Bay, in the county of Brown and State of WVisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Toilet-Paper Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in that class of toilet-paper holders in which the paper is supported in a revoluble roll.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple form of holder in which the movement of the paper is resisted sufficiently to cause the paper to tear off in sheets along perforated or weakened lines, and in which a detachable side arm is provided with an automatic lock that will not permit the release of the arm until the paper is wholly removed.
In the following description reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front view showing my invention in the position in which it is attached to the wall of a building and with the thimble of the removable side arm shown partly in section. Fig. 2 is a plan view of my inven tion. Fig. 3 is a side view showing the removable side arm. Fig. 4. is a section view drawn on the line X X of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a front view of the holding-plate. Fig. 6 is a detail view of the paper-supportin g cross-bar.
Like parts are identified by the same reference-letters throughout the several views.
A wall-plate Ais provided with a fixed holding-arm B at one end and a detachable arm 0 at the other end, the latter being connected with the plate by a sliding dovetail joint.
D is a paper-supporting cross-bar provided with a V-shaped recess E and a locking-rod F, projecting longitudinally therefrom, the latter being adapted to fit into a hole G in the outer edge of the arm 0 and provided with notches H.
The arm 0 is provided with a slotted thimble I, into which the rod F is adapted to fit, and within the slot J of the thimble I is located a gravity-actuated hook K, pivotally supported in the slot and arranged to automatically engage in the notches H by reason of the weight of the hooked end. Within the recesses E is located a spring L, which projects in a'slant. ing position from the recess and is adapted to resist the rotation of the roll sufliciently to cause the paper to tear off in sheets along predetermined lines which have been perforated or otherwise weakened.
The holder being free of paper it is evident that the side arm 0 may be released by pressing downwardly on the rear end of the hook K, thus raising the hooked end free from engagement in the notches. The arm 0 may then be withdrawn laterally, the roll of paper placed upon the bar G, and the arm replaced within a moments time. It is also evident that the hook being covered by the roll of paper it cannot be released until the paper is wholly removed, and it is therefore impossible to steal the roll.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination with a wall-plate,of a fixed side arm projecting therefrom and provided with a paper-supporting cross-bar, a removable side arm temporarily secured to said wall plate by a dovetail joint, a slotted thimble projecting from the detachable side arm, and provided with a hook pivotally supported in said slot, an extended notched rod projecting from the paper-supportin g bar and adapted to fit into said thimble with the hook engaging in one of said notches, and a spring arranged to project from a recess in the paper-supporting bar and adapted to resist the rotation of the roll, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
FRANK H. HOBERG.
