PICKER MECHANISM FOR LOOMS SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 571,729, dated November 17, 1896 Applicatio filed February 4, 1896. Serial No. 577,988. (No model.)
To (all? whom it may concern.-
Be itknown that I, JAMES H. PAIGE, acitizen of the United States, residing at Manchester, in the county of Hillsborough and State of New Hampshire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Picker Mechanism for Looms; andl do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will en- 1 o able others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates particularly to that class of picker mechanism for looms shown and described in Letters Patent of the United States No. 518,424, issued to myself on the 17th of April, 189;, the objects being to improve the construction of certain parts whereby greater strength is obtained and the life of those parts subjected to the severest wear is 20 prolonged.
The invention consists in the construction hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the following specification and claims, and clearly illustrated in the drawings 2 5 accompanying and forming a part of the same,

A is the picker stall or stick, and instead of cutting away part of the picker-stick to Fig. 3 is an enlarged 5 form bearin gs at the points at which it is hung,
as in my previous patent above referred to, I provide for the connections being made wholly in the bar B, which is bolted to the picker-stick at a a, the lower end of the bar being enlarged, as at b, sufficiently to receive and form a bearing for a pin c, which connects said picker-stick with one end of a link C, the other end of said link being pivoted at c to a bifurcated bracket or support D, adapted to be rigidly attached to a loom. As shown, the stick is supported directly on the link and mediately on the bracket or support D. The said bifurcated support comprises short and long arms, respectively, (Z d, the short arm d being provided with a boss d opposite to which on the bar B of the picker-stick 2 is a vertical sectional is a similar projection or boss Z), each boss or projection being designed to support the ends of a helical springX forinsuring the quick return of the picker-stick to its normal position. 5 5 The long arm d of the bifurcated support carries the free ends of a yoke E, which is provided with a journal 6, adapted to fit a bearing formed in the upper end of the bar B, and thus support a picker-stick in a manner similar to that shown in my previous patent. This bearing in the upper part of the bar 13 is open or separable, one portion being formed in said bar, as at 19 and the other portion being formed upon a plate B, as at 12 said plate 6 5 being formed quite long, its journal-bearing beinglocated at a point midway from its ends, so that it cannot even produce an abrasion upon the picker-stick, against which it rests on a plane with the bar 13, said plate B beinglet into the bar B, as shown at 12*, for this purpose. The plate B is reversible end for end and is not fastened in any way to either the pickerstick or the bar B, the flanges or shoulders e of the yoke E at each side of its journal e answering the purpose of holding said plate in position, and thus providing just enough elasticity in the connection of the yoke E with the picker-stick to avoid unnecessary friction.
One of the purposes of the plate B and of the semibearing formed therein is to avoid weakening the picker-stick, as happens when said bearing is situated in the body of the stick, as in the construction set forth in my above-named patent. The present improvement prevents the stick being worn by the bearing, and the plate 13'' being made easily reversible can be frequently reversed to insure uniformity of wear, which, however, will be 0 comparatively small. To avoid weakening the stick at this point and to provide for easily reversing plate B, the bar B is recessed at b to receive between itself and the stick the plate 13 and to aid in holding the plate in its proper situation. Said plate is held laterally by the shoulders e of the swinging yoke E, and by these means the journal-bearing of the yoke is provided and the stick left entire adjacent thereto.
The metal at each side of the journal e of the yoke E is curved, as will be seen at c below the said journal, and this is done to allow more room for the picker-strap, permitting it to drop as low as may be required.
Having described my invention, what I claim is 1. In a picker-motion for looms comprising an ordinary pickcr-stick,abifurcated bracket or support, and a connection for the lower ends of said picker-stick and bracket, a connection for the upper ends of said bracket and said picker-stick consisting of a yoke having its free ends pivoted to said bracket and pro vided with a journal 6 and flanges e and a separable bearing fitting between said flanges consisting of a bar secured by bolts to the pickerstick at points below the journal and having at its end one section of a bearing, and a plate containing the counterpart section of said bearing, said plate being held in place by-the said flanges and bar, substantially as described.
2. A bracket, the picker-stick, a bar secured by bolts to the lower end of said pickerstiek said bar having at its lower end a bearing and pivot whereby it is pivotally eonnected to the bracket and having at its upper end a half-bearing, a plate having a counterpart half-bearing and held to the pickerstick by said bar, and a swinging yoke pivoted in said latter bearing and also pivotally connected to the bracket, substantially as described.
