W. H. ME TZGER. CAKE TURNER.
No. 562,551. Patented June 23, 1896.
WITNESSES Jim EH02 Jitter-nay NlTED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
\VILLIAM H. METZGER, OF CANTON, OHIO.
CAKE-TU RN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent NO. 562,551, dated June 23, 1896.
Application filed December 23, 1895. Serial No. 572,993. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that LWILLIAM H. METZGER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Canton, county of Stark, State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cake-Turners, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification.
My invention relates to certain improvements in eake-turners; and it consists of certain features of construction and combination of parts which will be hereinafter described and claimed.
Figure 1 of the accompanying drawings is a view in perspective illustrating my invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section, and Fig. 3 is a perspective of the shank and a plan of a fragment of the plate.
A denotes the shank, in which is secured a plate, as B. In the shank is provided a spiral groove 0 and an annular groove D. The shank A is placed in a tube E, having provided therein a longitudinal slot F. To secure the shank in the tube, the outer end a of the cap Gis turned or flanged in and adapted to pass into the groove D. The edges of the cap I are then soldered to the side of the tube E.
The handle Il may be made of any suitable material, preferably of wood, secured in the inner end of the tube E. To the handle is secured a spring J, having secured to its front end an actuating-bar K, the front endor toe portion of which passes through the slot F in the tube E and into the spiral groove 0.
In operation, to rotate the plate in the tube,
handle H, the slotted tube E, spring J, bar K,
the rotatable shank A, having a spiral groove 0, and annular grooves D therein, the plate 13, and cap G, having its front end flanged in to pass into the annular groove, to hold the shank in the tube, substantially as set forth and for the purpose described.
2. A cake-turner comprising a handle, and a blade having a shank rotatively connected with the handle and'provided with a spiral groove, a spring having one end fixed to the handle, and a bar secured to its other end, said bar having its free end engaging with the groove in the aforesaid shank, whereby, when the spring is depressed the blade has an axial movement with respect to the handle, substantiallyas set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 13th day of December, A. D. 1895.
WILLIAM H. METZGEIR.
