FOLDING FIRE=HOSE TRESTLE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters latent No. 569,622, dated October 20, 1896. Application filed April 7, 1896. Serial No. 586,485. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, WARD B. DRUMMOND, of the city of Minneapolis, county of Hennepin, State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Fire-Hose Trestles, of which the following is a specification.

The object of this invention is to provide an improved trestle that may be used for supporting fire-engine hose, and which, when not in use, may be folded up so as to be conveniently carried upon a hose-carriage, supplywagon, or engine; and the invention consists generally in the constructions and combin ations hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

cured at each end of the main portion or body of the trestle by being secured to the ends of the side pieces 2, as shown, by bolts or screws 7 or other suitable means. (See Fig. 4.) The side plates 2 are provided at each end,near the top and bottom thereof, with the stop-lugs 9 and 11, and the legs 13 are pivoted upon the sides 2, near the ends thereof, by means of bolts 15. When said legs are turned into the position which they occupy when the trestle is set up ready for operation,'they engage the lugs 9 and 11 at points above and below the bolt 15, thereby firmly securing said legs in the position to which they are turned when the device is in position for operation.

The legs 13 are provided at each end with the braces 10, each of said braces being pivoted upon the upper portion of one of the legs 13, and each brace being adapted to extend across and engage the lower portion of the opposite leg 13. For securin g said braces in position I provide their lower ends with suitable holes 21 and the legs 13 with buttons 23, adapted to engage said holes 21, as shown in Fig. 2. The legs 13 are preferably provided with adjustable feet 25 upon one or both sides, each of which consists of a short section, similar to the leg, secured in place thereon by means of the strap 27, surrounding thelower end of the leg and surrounding said foot and in which said foot is free to move, and the strap 29, secured uponthe upper end of the foot 25 and surrounding the leg 13 and being provided with the thumbscrew 31 ,by means of which it maybe clamped at any point upon said leg 13.

For the purpose of more securely holding the hose I prefer to provide the end braces 35, each of which is pivoted to the side bar 2 near one end of the main frame of the trestle and is adapted to be turned over into the inclined position shown in Fig. 1 or to be turned back into the position shown in Figs. 3 and 5. lVhen in the position shown in Fig. 1, a notch upon the under surface of the brace 35 engages a stud 37 upon the leg 13, as shown in Fig. 1, thereby firmly bracing said leg and also causing said brace to retain its position. A leather strap 39, provided with a buckle upon its end, is arranged to extend across from one of said braces 35 to the corresponding brace at the same end of the trestle and is secured to both of said braces and forms a support for the hose when the trestle is erected. The strap has a free end extending beyond one of the braces, as shown in Fig. 2, so that when the trestle is folded the free end of the strap may be carried around the main part of the trestle and then secured in the buckle upon the other end of the strap, thereby securing the trestle in its folded position.

The operation of the device will be readily understood from the foregoing description.

The device is adapted to be folded up into the position shown in Fig. 3, or it may be readily set up and put into the position shown in Fig. 1, when it is adapted to support a firehose in an elevated position. The extended braces 35 serve to form additional means for bracing the trestle, and they also support the hose at points beyond the main portion of the trestle and prevent too sharp a turn being formed in the hose at points outside of the main portion of the trestle. The adjustable feet upon the legs upon one side of the trestle serve to permit the trestle to be adjusted to uneven ground.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In a fire-hose trestle, the combination, with the body portion, consisting of the side plates 2, the center plate 3, and the end plates or heads 5 having the curved openings in their upper portions, of the folding legs 13 secured to said side plates 2, for the purpose set forth.

2. The combination, in a folding fire-hose trestle, with the body portion, consisting of the center plate 3 and the side plates 2, and the end plates 5 provided with the curved openings in their upper portions, the said side plates 2 being provided with the lugs 9 and 11, of the legs 13 pivoted to said side plates and provided with the adjustable braces 19.

The combination, in a fire-hose trestle,

with the body portion, of the folding legs pivoted thereto at the opposite ends of said body portion, the braces 19, each pivoted upon one of said legs, and means for securing the opposite ends of said braces to the opposite legs, for the purpose specified.

4. The combination, in a firehose trestle, with the body portion, and the folding le s, of the pivoted braces 35, and the straps 59 extending across from one of said braces to the other, for the purpose set forth.

5. The combination, in a fire-hose trestle, with the body portion and the folding legs secured thereto, provided with the adjustable braces 19, of the adjustable feet secured upon two of said legs, for the purpose specified.
