HAT-RACK.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 567,169, dated September '8, 1896.

Beit known that we, JOHN N. ROHR and HENRY ROHR, citizens of the United States, residing at Kenton, in the county of Hardin and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hat-Racks, of which the following is a specication.

The object of our invention is to provide an improved form of hat-rack which may be used on church-pews or seats in places of public gathering,and it is so formed that it will hold a hat at the back or beneath the seat, or in both positions.

Our device is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which-h Figure l is a view looking at the back of the seat. Fig. 2 is a View looking at the bottom of the seat. Fig. 3 is a section through the seat, showing the rack in end elevation.

Similar letters refer to similar parts in the different views.

Our device is constructed of a continuous piece of wire, or any other suitable material, and is attached to the seat by wire staples, or any other equivalent means of fastening, substantially in the manner and position shown.

That portion of the rack which is at the back of the seat is formed of the curved segment a, which terminates in the loops b, the member c of which descends vertically from each loop to the bottom of the seat s, where each turns at right angles and forms the member d, which is secured by staples or other means to the bottom of the seat s. The members d extend forward under the seat a sufcient distance to receive the full length of a hat, and bend downward and again rearward,

forming the members e and f. The members serial No. 588,767. (No man.)

f extend from the members e to the back of the seat, and again bend at right angles, forming the members g, which extend horizontally a sufficient distance to admit the brim of a hat where the members g turn upward, forming the members 7i, which are fastened to the bottom of the seat by a screw passing through a looped end, or by any other suitable method of fastening.

With the above device two hats may be held, the one being carried by the segment d and the loops b and members c, the other being carried by the members f, which are spaced so that the crown of a hat will pass snugly between them, while the members g and h admit the brim when a hat is put in from the rear.

As above described and illustrated, we ask protection by Letters Patent and claim as follows:

In a hat-rack the combination of a segment the ends of which form loops and continuous vertical members at the back of a seat, said vertical members bending forward and running under the seat parallel to each other and attached thereto, and again bending downward and rearward to the back of the seat, again bending at right angles and -running horizontally from each other and turning again in a vertical position and fastening into the bottom of the seat, all being substantially of the form shown and described for purposes stated.
