' J.J. DALY.
LIFE PRESERVER.
No. 556,088. Patented Mar. 10, 1896.
WITNESSES: l/VVE/VTOR UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFICE.
JOI-IN J. DALY, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
LlFE-PRESERVER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 556,088, dated March 10, 1896.
Application filed July 14, 1894. Serial No. 517,608. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN J DALY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Life-Preservers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to inflatable life-preservers attachable to the body and adapted to support a person while in the water from sinking beneath its surface, and has especial reference to the means employed for holding the float firmly in operative position on the wearer.
The accompanying drawings illustrate the invention, its various features being referred to by letters, similar letters denoting corresponding parts-in both views.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view, and Fig. 2 an edge view, of the invention.
The letter A indicates a long, circular,
left free for action, or it may be made large enough to encircle the body under the arms.
When the preserver is inflated through the tube D it stiffens because of the pressure of the air, and the overlapping ends 3 and 0 press firmly against each other and hold the preserver in operative position on the wearer without any other fastening.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A life-preserver consisting in a circular inflatable body provided with a valved air-supply tube and having tapering ends which overlap each other and are held firmly in operative position when inflated, as herein described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN J. DALY. Witnesses:
