W. S. CHASE.
PLOW.
No. 548,181. Patented Oct. 22, 1895.-
I 7 Mia,
dilorney STATES PATENT I OFFICE.
WILLIAM S. CHASE, OF CANTON, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE BUOHER &; GIBBS PLOW COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
PLOW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 548,181, dated October 22, 1895.
Application filed July 1, 1895. Serial No. 554,569. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM S. CHASE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Canton, county of Stark, State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Plows, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in furrow-plows, the object of which is to provide means whereby the common short-share furrow-plow may be changed to a bar-share plow to adapt the plow for plowing rough and r 5 stony as well as smooth ground.
Figure 1 of the accompanying drawings is a perspective of a well-known form of shortshare furrow-plow. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the plow with landside and share removed. Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the bar-share, landside, and cutter attached. Fig. 4. is a side view of cutter. Fig. 5 is a similar view of landside. Fig. 6 is a perspective of bar-share with landside attached.
2 5 A denotes the standard, which is especially adapted to receive and support the interchangeable parts by which the plow may be organized as a short-share furrow-plow or a bar-share plow. The standard is peculiar in this, that in addition to the provision made onwhich the moldboard and short share are secured on the landside of the standard A is provided a recess B to receive the rear extension or bar 0 of the share and a recess D 3 5 to receive the forward extension at of the landsideplate E, the plate E having a downwardly and forwardly projected wing portion 12, that is secured to the bar 0 and standard A. There is also provided on the landside of the standard A an overhung lug c, by which the top end of the cutterF is secured to the standard. In the recess B of the standard areprovided horizontally-elongated apertures d, and in the recess D a similar elongated aperture 6 and corresponding apertures f are provided 5 in the wing portion a of the landside E. In the bar-share and landside is also provided aperture h, that corresponds with the before mentioned, through which bolts are passed to secure the parts to the standard.
G denotes the moldboard, which serves for both forms of plow; H, the short share; J, the short landside; K, the beam; L, the handles, and O, E, and F the interchangeable parts.
Having thus fully described the nature and 5 5 object of my invention, what I claim is- The combination in a plow of a standard, having recesses as B and D, and an over-hung log 0, of the bar share 0, land side E, having a forwardly projected portion a, and downwardly projectedw'ingb, and the cutter F, when arranged, substantially as shown and described and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 10th day of May, A. D. 1895.
WILLIAM S. CHASE. Witnesses:
