GLDTH HOLDING AND DISPLAY REEL. Y vNo. 532,955. Patented Jan. 22, 1895.

ALBER'I` M. GUY'ION, OF HOPVV/OOD, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO LINNIE CORNELIA HOUSE, OF UNIONTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA.
CLOTH HOLDINC? AND DISPLAY REEL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 532,955, dated January 22, 1895.
Application filed October 3, 1894- Serial No. 524.801. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern: t
Be it known that I, ALBERT M. GUYTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hopwood, in the county of Fayette, State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and usefu'l Improvements in Cloth Holding and Display Reels; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in reels for cloth or similar materials.
The vinvention will first be described in connection with the accompanying drawings, and then particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings-Figure l is a perspective view of a device embodying my invention, with a board in place between the jaws. Fig. 2 is a vertical central section. Fig. 3 is a plan View of the device,`the board being removed.
Referring to the drawings, A is a socket arranged to fit into a hole in the table or counter, B, and provided at its upper end with a flange a. Into this socket is fitted, loosely, a tube, C, having a cap c at its upper end adapted to contact with and move upon the Iiange a. The tube, C, is held against vertical displacement by a pin c passing through its lower end, below the socket A. To the upper end of the tube, C, is secured a base D, preferably circular, by means of screws d. The cap, C, is recessed in its top face and in the recesses, c2 are located lugs e of standards E which pass through openings in the base D, and project some distance above said base, the said standards being secured to the base, on its lower side, by screws e passing upward through the lugs e and into the base D. The upper ends of the standards are provided with lateral knife edges e2 adapted to engage and cut into the board F upon which comes the bolt of goods, thereby holding the board rmly between the` standards. This board is not part of the reel but is the board on which the goods are shipped, the bolt of goods being put in place by inserting the ends of the standards between the inbolt downward until its lower end rests upon the base D.
When a device, such as described, is attached to astore counter in the manner specified, the free end of the goods may be drawn out, the reel revolving and permitting the goods to unwind. By this arrangement, a clerk desiring to cut off a certain number of yards of cloth from a bolt, may measure the first yard, either with a yard stick or in any suitable manner, and by folding the measured lengthl over upon the remainder of the goods, unwrapping said goods as the folding proceeds, can eventually arrive at the proper length and by then cutting the goods od, has only to fold the removed length, for wrapping, thns saving all the usual labor of measuring the entire length with a yard stick or counter measure, as well as the time in first unwrapping the goods. Furthermore, my device is equally serviceable as a display rack by any desired number being secured to the counter or in show windows and the goods attached thereto in the manner described, one
end of the cloth alwaysbeing exposed showing the quality and texture of the goods.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is* Y In a reeling device as described, the combination, with a socket having a ange on its t Witnesses:
