PIPE-COVER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 532,187, dated January 8, 1895.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, NATHAN RUBENSTEIN,

- a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New'York, have'invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pipe-Covers, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to an improvement in devices for covering or closing holes or openings in pipes, the object being to provide a device for this purpose, which shall be simple in construction, efiective in use, and so arranged that it may be readily and easily insorted in place.

With these and other ends in view, my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of my improved device, the cover proper being omitted. Fig. 2 is a view of the same applied to a pipe with the cover in position. Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4is aview of a modification, and Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken on the line 55 of Fig. 4.

Referring to the drawings A-A represent the arms pivoted in the bearing or yoke a, and preferably of the form shown. Into the top of the yoke a, is threaded the post B, which, when screwed down bears upon the enlarged portions a of the arms A, and holds them in their horizontal positions as shown in Figs. 2 and 3.

0 represents the cover proper formed with dome a into which fits the yoke a when the parts are properly assembled, said dome having an opening in its top through which the post B passes.

In applying my improved cover the lower heavy ends of the arms A are allowed to pass through the opening in the pipe D as shown in Fig. 1, the device being grasped by the post B, and the upper lighter ends of the arms A are then pushed downwardly until the arms assume a horizontal position as shown in Fig. 2, the heavy ends of the arms fitting within the pipe, and the lighter ends bearing against the outer side thereof. 1 When the pipe is thus grasped between the arms, the post B is screwed down until it is forced against the bearings 0r enlargements a which secures the said arms in the horizontal adjustment. The cover proper 0 is then placed in position, the post B passing through the opening in the dome c and allowing the edges of the cover to come in contact with the pipe D at points surrounding the opening in the pipe. A nut d is then screwed down on the post B and against the cover 0, thereby securely holding the parts together.

Instead of forming the arms as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, I may pivot them near their ends in the yoke as shown in Fig. 4 and thus eliminate the lighter ends thereof. In this instance the cover is placed in'position on the yoke, before the arms are passed into the pipe, the arms first assuming the positions as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 4. Upon raising the post and bringing the yoke into the dome of. the cover the short ends of the arms A strike the cover proper and assume the horizontal position shown in full lines Fig. 4. The nut d is then screwed down in the post B binding the cover against the pipe D as in the former instance.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- V 1. The combination with the two arms, of a yoke in which said arms are pivoted, a post attached to said yoke, a cover adapted to fit over said yoke, and means for fastening said cover, substantially as described.

2. The combination with the arms A,of the yoke a, post B threaded in said yoke, a cover C through which said post passes, and the lock nut d, the said parts being 'onstruoted and arranged, substantially asdescribed.
