To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that LISAAO VORON, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, and aresident of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mouthpieces for Cigarettes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.

The object of this invention is to provide a cigarette mouth-piece of sheet-cork or other suitable material, which may be applied directly to the cigarette and therefore add practically' nothing to the size or weight thereof, which shall protect the lips of the smoker from contact with the paper or the tobacco of the cigarette, and shall not be liable to become detached by the moisture of the mouth. The blank from which the mouth-piece is made is so formed as to be easily applied and being itself of insignificant cost, the expense of providing cigarettes with a mouth-piece which is particularly acceptable to the smoker is but trifiing..

I have shown an embodiment of the invention in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is an elevation of the blank or sheet of cork for forming the mouthpiece of struction, being preferably oval in cross section rather than round, and preferably the paper wrapper turned in slightly at one end and a bit of absorbent material a, such as cloth, pasted upon the end.

The blank B which forms the mouth-piece is preferably out from a moisture resisting material such as very thin cork and is of substantially the shape shown-in Fig. 1, comprising in its most desirable form a body-piece b, substantially rectangular, of a convenient width and of a length sufficient to'permit it to be wrapped around the cigarette, as shown in Fig. 4, with the ends preferably overlapping. A cap-piece b, Figs. 1, 3 and 4, which conforms to the end of the cigarette, being shown as oval in this case, is provided with .perforations b b and is integrally attached to the body-piece b at a convenient point on one edge thereof, as at b and strips b, b which radiate from the cap-piece.

The method of applying the mouth-piece is a very simple one, and consists of laying the blank B on a smooth surface, such as a table or slab in a fiat position, placing that end of the cigarette which has already been provided with a wad of absorbent material, on to the blank B, in such a manner that the end will meet the cap-piece when it'joins the bodypiece I). Then swing up the cap-piece so that it will cover the end of the cigarette and hide the wad of absorbent material. The strips 5 b are now in position to turn over and on to the body of the cigarette, and lastly the ends of the body-piece are folded over to form a complete covering to the end of the cigarette. To prevent these ends from breaking or being torn, it is advisableto apply a small amount of paste or fine gum in such a mannerthat they will be firmly secured together,

the one overlapping the other, and thus making a perfect cylinder of cork. For better results, I also apply adhesive to the strips b ,b so that they will adhere to the body of the cigarette.

I am aware that it is not new to add a mouthpiece to the end of a cigarette, as that has been done before by reinforcing with a strip ofpaper or other material forming a little cylinder on the end of the cigarette, but the advantages gained by my invention as herein set forth, are much greater than in the other methods and the end attained is superior. Furthermore I make use of a very small quantity of adhesive, placing it on the under side of the overlapping ends of the body-piece b, and as cork does not permit 'of the passage of the saliva, the smoker will not be conscious of the presence of the adhesive material used to form the said cylinder.

I claim as my invention- The combination with a cigarette, of a mouth-piece formed of moisture resisting material and comprising a substantially rectangular body-piece, a perforated cap to conform 'to the end of the cigarette integrally attached to the body-piece at one edge thereof, and

strips radiating from the cap, the said cap being placed against the end of the cigarette, the radiating strips being bent to lie against the sides of the cigarette and the body-piece to being laid around the cigarette over the radiating strips and secured by adhesive, substantiaily as shown and described.
