COMBINED TYPE-WRITER CASE AND TABLE.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, FREDERICK 0. W001), of Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Type- Writer Case and Table; and I do hereby declare that the following description of my said invention, taken in connection with the accompanying sheet of drawings, forms a full, clear, and exact specification, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to improvements in a combined type-writer case and table, its object being to produce a case in which a typewriter may be compactly inclosed for transportation or protection when not in use and at the same time can be conveniently arranged for use as a type-writer table.

It consists in the novel and peculiar arrangement of its parts and detail of its construction all of which will be hereinafter first fully set forth and described, and then pointed out in the claims.

In the drawings already referred to which serve to illustrate my said invention more fully, Figure 1, is a perspective view showing my improved type-writing case as opened out into a table. Fig. 2, is a perspective view of the case when closed, the case being arranged for transportation. Fig. 3, is a vertical central section of the same. Fig. 4, is a view similar to Fig. 2, with'the cover or extending board of the case removed, and Figs. 5, 6, and 7, are detail views.

Referring to the drawings the body 1, of the case when arranged for transportation as seen in Fig. 2, forms an oblong box having the car- When it is desired .to use the machine the cover 4 is removed. This cover 4 is secured at its lower end by the screw-heads 5, which rest in recesses 6, in the edge of the board 7, of the case and at its upper end to the part 8, by a small lock 9. Hinged to the inner corner of the cover 4, is the stretcher frame 10. This stretcher frame 10, is swung into the position shown in Fig. 1, where it is locked against the projecting portion 26, of the cover 4, by the lock 9, and when in this position acts as a support for the outer end of the cover 4, the inner end of the coverbeing secured to the body of the case by the screw-heads" 5, which engage with the plates 11, arranged at the upper end of the case on either side thereof. The drawer 12, which rests in the upper end of the case 1, upon the slides 13, is then removed and placed into the slides 14, arranged on the under side of the cover 4,and the board 15, hinged as at 16, is carried up into the position shown in Fig. 1, and securely held there by spring pressed catches or pins 17, which engage with stationary pins 18, arranged in the side walls at the upper open ,end of the case. These spring-pressed pins 17, are arranged as shown in detail in Fig. 6, the pins 17, slidingin sleeves 19, and pivoted to a disk 20, which in turn is pivoted to the under side surface of the board 15, the pins 17, normally projecting beyond the edge of the board, by .the action of the springs 22. When it is desired to release the pins 17, from the stationary pins 18, the rod 21, is drawn out so as to revolve the disk 20, drawing the pins 17, inwardly, and disengage them from the pins 18, thus permitting the hinged board 15, to be lowered down into the case.

In the board 15, and at the sides of the machine I have arranged the holes 23, for the reception of the manuscript holder 24. This manuscript holder 24, may be of any well known form, so provided as to enable it to be folded over the front of the machine when the machine is inclosed in the case.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A typewriter case comprising a rectangular box 1 having a portion of its top and a. portion of its front removed, the board 7 below the open front having holes 6, and the sides of the case having holes 11; combined with a removable front piece i having a projecting portion 26, pins 5 in the end of said front adapted to enter said holes 6, and a lock 9 at the end of said portion 26, as and for the purpose set forth.

2. A typewriter case comprising a rectangular box 1 having a portion of its top and a portion of its front removed, the board 7 below the open front having holes 6, and the sides of the case having holes 11; combined too with a removable front piece 4 having a projecting portion 26, pins 5 in the end of said front adapted to enter said holes 6, a lock 9 at the end of said portion 26, aframe 1O hinged the box above the machine; combined with a removable front piece detachably connected with and closing the open parts of said box and having drawer guides, and means for supporting said piece at the side of the box to form a table, as and for the purpose set forth. In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have hereto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
