HERMANN BREMER, OF HALBERSTADT, GERMANY.
FOLDING SNOW-SHOE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 526,216, dated September 18 1894.
Application filed February 24, 1894. Serial No. 501,895. (No model.)
.To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERMANN BREMER, of Halberstadt, in the Kingdom of Prussia and German Empire, have invented a Folding Snow-Shoe, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to a snow-shoe consisting of two parts adapted to be joined by means of a pivoted lever or turning clasp, so as to form one connected piece, the relative arrangement of the two parts being such as to impart the resiliency of a spring to the joint.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a plan; Fig. 2, a longitudinal section,-and Fig. 3 a side-view of the complete snow-shoe. Fig. 4 is a cross section of the joint or fastening. l
The improved snow-shoe mainly consists of two overlapping parts orleaves a and b of equal size, the front parta terminating in a point 0, turned upwardly, whilethe rear portiotion b is of approximately equal width throughoutits length, though it decreases somewhat in thickness or depth toward the back. The two pieces are connected by a hinge d, but so arranged that the piece 12 extends some distance underneath the piece a. Besides, the contact surfaces of both pieces a and b are beveled, whereby the resiliency of the snow-shoe is increased. Upon the portion a is arranged a lover or clasp econsisting of a powerfuly steel spring and a knob or finger-piece. To fasten the lever imposition, when the joint is closed or tightened, it is provided with a pin or stop 6 adapted to engage in a recess of corresponding shape provided in the piece a. On bothsides of the pivot of the lever there are formed slots, for the pegs or hooks ff, projecting from the part b, to pass through. The pivoted end of the lever e is also provided with two arms, or catches g and h engaging with the protruding ends of the said hooks or pegs ff and thereby assisting in keeping the two parts a b united in one connected piece. The portion of the snow-shoe upon which the footis to rest is preferably covered with india rubber, while straps i and k are.
secured to the snow-shoe, so that it may be conveniently attached to the foot.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the UnitedStates, is-
A snow shoe comprising two sections whose adjacent ends overlap one another, a hinge connection between one ofthe said ends and the other section, a projection on the other end, and a sprin gpressed lever pivoted to the section whose end is secured to the hinge,
said lever being adapted to engage the pro-
