FOLDING CRIB.
Patented Sept. 18, 1894.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES S. MAOKIE, OF BARRE, VERMONT.
FOLDING CRIB.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 526,081, dated September 18, 1894.
App filed November 1, 1893- Serial No. 489,732. (No model.)
useful Improvements in Folding Cribs; and
I do hereby declare the following to be a full,
clear, and exact description of the invention,
such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in folding-cribs, and has for its object to provide simple and convenient means for arranging a crib in com-' pact form for the purpose of storage or transportation, including the mattress and the spring bed bottom. 7
With these and other objects in View the invention consists of the construction and arrangement of the several parts which will be more fully hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawingsz-Figure 1 is a persective view of the crib arranged in position for use. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the crib shown in folded position. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal vertical section on the line a:0c, Fig. 2.
Similar numerals of reference are employed to indicate corresponding parts in the several figures of the drawings.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the opposite side rails, and 2, the end rails of the bed frame for a crib which are supplied with legs 8. To the said side and end rails are hinged the side and end parts or frames 4 and 5 of the crib which may be of any preferred form of construction and between the said side and end rails is mounted a mattress frame 6. The said mattress frame 6, is controlled as to its position by the movement of the side parts or frame 4 of the crib and connected to the opposite end strips of the said side parts or frames by pivots are links 7 whose lower ends are movably attached to metallic elbows or brackets 8 attached to the under side of the mattress frame 6 and projecting outwardly from the latter. The said elbows or brackets 8 are secured under the end portions of the said mattress frame 6 and when the parts or frames 4 are let down, as shown in Fig. 2, they lower the said mattress frame 6, together with the mattress and spring bed bottom which may be carried therewith. When the said side parts or frames 4 are raised, as shown in Fig. 1, they proportionately draw upwardly the said frame 6 and to sustain the elevation of the said frame 6, bolts 9 carried at the opposite ends of' the top rails of the said parts or frames 4 are caused to engage loops or keepers 10 on the adjacent portions of the end parts 5, to therebyolock the crib in proper position for use. In folding the parts of the crib, the side parts or frames 4 are first turned down and then the end parts 5 on top of the said side parts or frames, it being observed that the said side parts or frames are hinged at a slightly lower level than the said end parts 5 to accommodate this form of folding, and also that all the parts are hinged to turn inwardly.
The construction and arrangement of the crib as thus set forth are exceptionally convenient and simple, and it will be understood that many minor changes in the several parts might be made and substituted for those shown and described without in the least departing from the nature or spirit of the invention.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1. In a folding-crib, the combination of inwardly folding side and end parts or frames, a vertically movable mattress frame mounted between said parts, adapted to lower under the folding side and end parts and links connected to said side parts or frames and the opposite ends of said mattress frame, substantially as described.
2. In a folding-crib, the combination of inwardly folding side and end parts or frames, a vertically movable mattress frame mounted between said parts and having elbows or brackets attached to the under portion of opposite ends thereof, adapted to rise and fall in the bed frame and links connecting the said side parts or frames with the said elbows or brackets, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JAMES S. MAOKIE.
