Description

(No Model.)-
7 R. SCHMIDT. FOLDING FEED BOX.
No. 514,203. Patented Feb. 6, 1894.
WWW a. W M- UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT HERMANN SCHMIDT, OF HOHENSTEIN, GERMANY.
FOLDING FEED-BOX.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 514,203, dated February 6, 1894.
Application filed July 10, 1393. Serial No. 480,091; (No model.) Patented in Germany October 6. 1892, No. 8,328, and in France January 14,1893,N0. 127,133-
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, ROBERT HERMANN SCHMIDT, a subject of the German Emperor, residing at I-lohenstein, in the Kingdom of Saxony, German Empire, have invented certain newand useful Improvements in Folding Feeding-Boxes, (for which I have obtained patents in France, No. 227,133, dated January 14, 1893, and in Germany, No. 8,328, dated October 6, 1892,) of which the following is a true specification.
My invention relates to a new or improved transportable folding feeding box for horses and cattle, the object of the same being the prevention of the spread of disease by infected animals eating from the same common trough. Nose-bags, it is true, prevent this evil, but cause one almost as great in that they allow 11o ventilation of the food in the bag.
To attain my object, I make use of the invention described in the following specification; and in order to make the same more fully intelligible, reference is-made to the accompanying drawing which represents the feeding trough fixed for use.
The four legs a a a a, are hinged in pairs, each pair being connected toward their lower ends by a crossbar b, said cross-bar being hinged to both legs and also in the middle in such a manner that by closing up the crossbar the legs a can be folded. One leg of each pair is continued upward beyond the hinge at such an angle that on the legs being spread out this piece 0 takes a perpendicular position. These extensions a carry projections d d, a rod 6, hinged in the middle being attached to the same by additional hinges. To
maintain the legs a and bar e firmly in position, stiffening bars ffiare attached to the latter and can be fixed in sockets in the legs a. The free ends of ff, can be secured in position by a bolt or other means. On folding the box, these bars can be turned upward or downward as may be desired.
The feedingbox h, with solid ends g, is fixed on the framing by means of sockets k k, affixed to the sides g g, the extensions 0 0, passin g through the said sockets thus holding the trough in position. A cord 2', is passed through the canvas bag 72. and sides g, by means of which the trough can be drawn together and made to form a bag or receptacle to hold the food.
When not required for use, the whole apparatus can be folded and stored away in a small'compass.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States of North America, is
'A folding feeding trough, consisting of the combination of legs a a a a, hinged in pairs, cross-bars b b, hinged to and connecting each air'said airshavin extensions 0 c and r p 3 b 3 hinged bare connecting the same, stiffening bars ff, and canvas trough h with solid ends g provided with sockets k for the insertion of the extensions 0, substantially as and for the purpose herein described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
In witness whereof I have signed this specification in presence of two witnesses.
ROBERT HERMANN SCHMIDT. Witnesses:
