H. H. HIGHAM. CASE FOR GARBOYS.
Patented May 23, 1893.
ITLUC/HZOL' JibWard/JC JiYgIwun/ W 6621/65 6 as r UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE HOWARD H. I-IIGHAM, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
CASE FOR CARBOYS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 497,878, dated May 23, 1893.
Application filed September 23, 1892. Serial No. 446,658. (No model.)
' that it may be tilted in order to discharge the contents of thevessel without removing said vessel from the case, and this object I attain by so constructing the lid or cover of the case that it may be shifted from the covering position to a position on the front of the case and there act as a rocker on which the case and the contained vessel may be tilted, as more fully set forth hereinafter.
In the accompanying drawings:Fignre 1, is a perspective view of a case for carboys constructed in accordance with my invention, the cover being shown in its normal position by full lines, and in the shifted position by dotted lines; and Figs. 2 and 3, are side views showing the action of the lid when used as a rocker.
A represents a carboy or other large vessel inclosed as usual in the protecting casing B which maybe constructed in any desired manner and of any suitable material.
The cover or lid G for the case has an arched or curved top a and is preferably connected to the case at its opposite ends by links D pivoted at (l to the case and at d to the cover, the links being of suitable length and so dis posed that the cover may be moved from the position shown by full lines in Fig. 1, to that shown by dotted lines in said figure, and more clearly in Figs. 2 and 3. When moved to the position shown in Figs. 2 and 3 the cover forms a convenient rocker on which the case may be raised and tilted and the contents of the vessel discharged.
It will be understoodthat various modifications of this invention may be made the essential feature comprising the cover which, when moved to the side of the box, acts as a rocker for the case. For instance the body of the cover may be of any desired shape so long as it has arched or rounded ends or other portions serving as rockers, and the links may be dispensed with if the cover has fastening devices whereby it may be secured either to the top or side of the case.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Pat- 61113? 1. A case for carboys and similar vessels having a cover with a rounded exterior portion forming a rocker, and means for confining said cover either to the top or to one side of the case, substantially as specified.
2. The combination of the carboy or other vessel, a case therefor, a cover for said case having a curved portion and links connecting said cover to the case so as to permit it to occupy a position either at the top or side of the case, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presenceof two subscribing witnesses.
HOWARD I-I. HIGHAM.
