To all whom it may concern,.-

Be it known that we, SAMUEL MCCLINTOGK DUFFIE and MATTHEW MCGLINTOCK DUFFIE, citizens of the United States, residing at Princeton, in the county of Dallas and State of Arkansas, have invented certainV new and useful Improvements in Store-Trucks; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

Our invention has relation to store trucksg and consists in the novelconstruction and arrangements of its parts, hereinafter Aset out in this specification and in the claims thereto annexed.

In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of our invention. Fig. 2, is a longitudinal sectional view of Fig. 1. Fig. 3, is a detail view. Fig. 4, is a perspective view of the front end of our invention when the upper faces of the cross pieces are flush with the upper faces of the side beams. Fig. 5, is a view of our hinge when we use the form shown in Fig. 4. y

Our invention is described as follows:

A. is a pair of store-trucks consisting of the side beams a, center beam a', cross front beam b, rear cross beam b and brace beams b2, truck wheels c, feet c', and nose piece d. In the front edge of the front cross beam b, is cut a recess e; and to the upper face of said front cross beam is hinged an apron f, so that when said apron is raised the rear face of its lower end will rest against the forward face of the recess e, in the front cross beam b, while the front face of said apron higher up rests against the nose piece d, thus making the strain, when the load is on, against the cross beam b, and the nose d, relieving the hinges from all strain. The hinges may be ordinary butts, hooks and staples, or any ordinary hinge appliances. Said apron is so constructed and hinged that it'will lie down flat between the side beams a, and on the center beam a', and cross beam b2, and be entirely out of the way when the truck is used for heavy weights; and for the purpose of keeping said apron down in place it has on its rear face near its upper end a counter-sunk eye g; and to the centerbeam a', is secured a hook g', adapted to hook in said eye, or said apron may be held dowp in such'position by any of the usual contrivanees for such purpose.

When the front cross piece Z7, extends too far forward for the practical use of the recess e, as above described; we cut in the upper face of said cross beam a groove or slot e, as above described, for the lower end of the apron f, to restin when up; in every other respect the invention is as above described.

'When the upper faces of the cross beams b, b', h2, are iiush with the side beams a, we

construct our apron and the hinges in such manner that the apron and hinges may be removed. Thus in the uppery face of the cross beam b, we cut a couple of grooves e, which may or may not extend all the way across the said. beam; and over and across said groove we secure keepers c', and we construct a hinge c2, having one end plain as an ordinary hinge, while the other is provided with a depression d', and a spring-catch d?, which is run under the keeper c', while the plain end of the hinge is secured to the rear face of the apron f, as

i shown in Figs. 1 and 4; and when the truck is to be used for conveying heavy material, the spring-catches cl2, are pressed down and the apron and hinges removed.

The apron f, may be one solid piece as shown in the drawings or it may be framework. The

object of this apron attachment is to enable a the operator to throw it up and to carry large loads o'f light goods.

Having described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A store truck, substantially as shown and described, provided with an apron f, hinged to its front cross beam t, in such manner that its lower end will rest against the front face of said beam, and higher up, the rear face of the nose, substantially as shown and described and for the purposes set forth.

2. A store truck, substantially as shown and described, provided with a removable apron IOO f, hinged to its front cross beam b, in such manner, that its lower end will rest against the front face of said beam, and higher up, against lthe rear face of the nose, substantially as shown and described and for the purposes set forth.

3. In combination with a store truck, substantially as shown and described, the cross beam b, having the recess e; apronf, hinged to said cross beam in such manner as that the rear side of its lower end will rest against the front Wall of the recess e, and higher up, its front side will rest against the nose d, substantially as shown and described and for the purposes set forth.

4. In combination with a store truck, substantially as shown and described, the hook g', secured to the center beam a; front cross beam l), having the recess e; apron f, having the eye g, counter-sunk near its upper end in its rear face; said apron hinged to said cross beam in such manner as that the rear side of its lower end will rest against the front wall ef the recess e; and higher up, its front side will rest against the nose d; hook g', being situated and adapted to catch in the eye g, substantially as shown and described and for the purposes set forth.

5. In a store truck, substantially as shown and described, the cross beam b, provided with the recesses e, and keepers c; hinges c2, having one end provided with the groove d', and spring-catch d2, adapted to fit under the keepers c; apron f, secured to the plain end of said hinges, substantially as shown and described and for the purposes set forth.
