MONA, a citizen of'Spain, residing at Brooklyn, 1n the county of Kings andState of New York, have invented certain newand usefullmprovements in Safety-Guards for Watches; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My 1n vention relates to improvements in a safety guard for watches.

The object of my invention is to provide a in section showing guard attached to a watch and chain. Fig. 2, a similar view showingthe guard open, and Fig. 3, a side view partly in section and showing the device when not used as a guard.

Referring to the drawings A is a watch having the usual ring I).

O is a curved snap hook adapted to engage with the ring I), and it consists of a straight portion-c, and a curved portion d. The upper portion of the vertical part 0 is made hollow and internally screw threaded adaptedto receive the screw end of a shank E. On the hook C at a point where the curved portion begins and the vertical portion ends are two ears 6', slightly separated from each other to admit a spring snap f, which is pivoted thereto. This spring snap is provided with a groove f, on its upper side to receive the forked ends of a fish shaped anchor F. The body of this anchor is provided near its head with recesses g, to admit the pointed ends of U-shaped spring holder G, which tongs are connected to the watch chain.

K, K, are jointed rods consisting of three sections, 7, 8 and 9. The central part 8, is provided with a screw at each end which screws are adapted to engage with screw threads in the sections 7 and 9.

7 the rods K, K, and through thelspring holder Be it known that I, ILDEFONSO CLARES CAR- G, isa rod L, oneend ofv which is provided with a head i, which -is hinged to'the'top of R is a small set screw passing through the head of rod L, from the top and into top of shank E,the purpose of which is to lock these parts and prevent the guard from swinging on its support 0, when it is not desired to have the device act as a guard. As an additional support for the fish anchor a rod L, is employed passed throughnthe lower sections 9 and the anchor body.

In Fig. 3, it will be seen that the fish is removed and the snap hook O, is hung on the spring holder. For this purpose the shank C of the hook is provided with recessesg to receive the point of the spring holder. The rod L is then also employed as a support for the tion of the watch and at the same time giving the owner warning of the attempt.

The fish may be used as a scarf pin or other article of ornament when not in use in the guard. The jointed rods which are made of gold, silver, 850., may be used as cuff buttons or shirt studs.

When it is desired to use the snap-hook, 0, without the fish as shown in Fig. 3, andwithout removing the jointed-rods, 7, 8, and 9, I provide the snaphook with a hole extending entirely through it, through which the lower screw L, is passed, so that rods 7, 8, and 9 are I all held in the position as shown in said figure. When the snap-hook is thus used the head, i, is removed, and the small screw, 1, is

screwed farther in to hide its projecting end.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. A safety guard for watches consisting in combination of the sectional side supporting rods K, K, provided with screws and screw threaded sockets for uniting them vertically,

i and cross screw rods for unitin them later ally, a U shaped spring holder within said sections and a rod for holding them in such position, a fish shaped anchor provided with prongs hung on said spring holder, and a snap hook engaging at one end with the watch ring, with its shank engaging one of the sections of the supporting rods K, substantially as and for the purpose described.

2. In a safety guard for watches an anchor terminating at one end in prongs, in combination with a U shaped holder for holding the said anchor at the opposite end, a rod and frame carrying said anchor, a hooked rod for attachment to a watch at one end, with its opposite straight end hinged to said anchor, substantially as described.

3. In a safety guard for watches the sectional screw jointed rods K, in combination with the U shaped holder and rod for hold ing said holder to the rods K, and the snap hook 0, having recesses on its shank to engage with the arms of said holder, substantially as described.

4. In a safety guard for Watches the combination with the sectional side joints,of the U shaped holder, the anchor having the prongs, a curved hook 0, adapted to engage with the ring, of a watch said hook provided with a spring snap f, and the snap provided with a groove to receive the prongs of the anchor, substantially as and for the purpose de scribed.
