NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SARAH ROSALINE THOMPSON, OF HENRIETTA, TEXAS.
FRUIT-PRESS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 494,396, dated March 28, 1893.
Application filed October 24, 1892. Serial No. 449,787. (No model.)
T0 at whom it may concern.- 7
Be it known thatI, SARAHROSALINE THOMP- SON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Henrietta,in the county of Clay and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fruit-Presses; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
Myinvention has relation to improvements in fruit presses or devices for extracting and straining the juice of fruits, and it has for its general object to provide such a device of a cheap, simple, and durable construction, and one adapted when notin use to be disconnected and folded back against the wall so as to occupy but a minimum amount of space.
Other objects and advantages will be fully understood from the following descriptionand claims when taken in connection with the annexed drawings in which:
Figure 1, is a perspective View of my improved device in an operative position, and Fig. 2, is an elevation of the same with the parts disconnected and resting against the wall.
Referring by letter to the said drawings: A, indicates the bracket plate of my improved device which is connected to a wall or other suitable support, and is provided with a hook a, which may be formed integral therewith and is designed for a purpose presently described. This bracket plate A, is provided on its front side with bearings b, in which are journaled the lateral branches 0, of the arms B, to the outer ends of which arms the cloth supporting ring 0, is connected.
The straining cloth D, of my improved device which is designed to hold the fruit to be pressed, has its upper edge lapped over the supporting ring 0, and is secured between the said ring 0, and a keeper ring E, which is placed around the ring 0, as better shown in Fig. 1, of the drawings. By this construction it will be perceived that the straining cloth may be readily secured to the ring 0, and may as readily be removed therefrom, after use, for cleansing or other purposes.
Pivotally connected to the ring 0, at opposite points as shown is a bail loop F, which is preferably formed from resilient material and placed to receive it.
This laterally swinging arm G, which also serves to brace the ring 0, is provided at an intermediate point in its length with a vertically disposed threaded aperture 71, through which takes the threaded spindle H, of the presser head I, which spindle is provided at its upper end with a crank J, whereby it may be readily turned to carry the head I, up or down as desired.
In practice the straining cloth is secured in position as before described andis filled with the fruit from which the juice is to be expressed. The threaded spindle H, is then rotated to carry the head 1, down upon the fruit, when the juice will be forced through the straining cloth and into a suitable vessel This operation is repeated until all of the juice is expressed from the fruit, when the fruit may be removed and a new charge placed in the cloth. After the pressing of the fruitis completed, and it is desired to remove the straining cloth and fold the device back against the wall, the head I, is raised through the medium of the screw H, so that it will clear the rings 0, E, and the arm G, is then swung out of engagement with the said rings and back against the wall. The ring E, is then removed to release the straining cloth, and the bail loop F, is disengaged from the hook a, of the bracket plate, when the ring 0, and the said loop F, will fall and will hang close against the wall.
By reason of the construction set forth, it will be perceived that fruit may be pressed and the juice extracted therefrom and strained without the necessity of the operator staining her hands and when hot fruit is pressed it will be seen that the danger of the operator burning her hands is reduced to a minimum.
While my improved device is especially adapted for expressing and straining the juice of fruits, yet it may be employed to advantage for many purposes such as straining the whey from heated clabber to make cheese; for straining lard from the cracklings; and for straining the lint from boiling soap suds when needed to Wash colored clothes.
In order to impart a clear understanding of my invention, I have specifically described the construction, and relative arrangement of the several elements thereof, but I do not desire to be confined to the same as such changes or modifications may be made as fairly fall within the scope of the invention.
Having described my invention, what I claim is 1. In a fruit press, or device for expressing and straining the juice of fruits, the combination with a bracket plate adapted to be connected to a wall or other support; of an arm pivotally connected to the bracket plate and carrying a ring at its outer end adapted to support afruit receptacle, a suitable means for supporting the arm and ring in a horizontal position, the arm G, pivotally connected to the bracket plate and devices carried by said arm G, adapted to be manipulated to express the juice from the fruit, substantially as specified.
2. In a fruit press, or device for expressing and straining the juice of fruits, the combination with a bracket plate adapted to be connected to a wall or other support, an arm pivotally connected to the bracket plate and carrying the ring 0, at its outer end, the ring E, adapted to be placed upon the ring C, to secure a straining cloth thereto, and a suitable means for supporting the arm and rings in a horizontal position; of the arm G, pivotally connected to the bracket plate so as to swing in a horizontal plane and having a hook at its free end adapted to embrace the rings 0, E, and devices carried by the arm G, adapted to be manipulated to express the juice from the fruit, substantially as specified.
3. In a device for expressing and straining the juice of fruits, the combination with a bracket plate adapted to be connected to a Wall or other support; and having the hook at; of an arm pivotally connected to the bracket plate and carrying the ring 0, at its outer end, adapted to support a fruit receptacle, the bail loop pivotally connected to the ring 0, and adapted to engage the hook of the bracket plate, the arm G, pivotally connected to the bracket plate, and devices carried by said arm G, adapted to be manipulated to express the juice from the fruit, substantially as specified.
4. In a fruit press or device for expressing the juice from fruits, the combination with the bracket plate having the hook a, the arms B, pivotally connected to the bracket plate and carrying the ring 0, at their outer ends, the bail loop pivotally connected to the ring 0, and adapted to engage the hook of the bracket plate, and the ring E, adapted to secure a strainer cloth to the ring 0; of the arm G, pivotally connected to the bracket plate so as to swing in a horizontal plane, and having the hook g, at its outer end, and devices carried by said arm adapted to be manipulated to express the juice from the fruit, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SARAH ROSALINE THOMPSON.
