PROGRAM AND SCORE-CARD CHATELETTE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 481,195, dated August 23, 1892. Application filed February 23, 1892. Serial No. 422,450. (No model.)

Be it known that I, EDWARD R. RonHM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, county of Wayne, State of Michigan,

5 have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Program and Score-Gard Chatelettes; and I declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same,

My invention is designed to provide a program and score-card chatelette of simple, economical, and tasteful appearance, and constituting at the same time an article of great desirability and utility.

To this end my invention consists of the devices and appliances, their construction,

combination, and arrangement, as hereinafter specified and claimed, and illustrated in the drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a View showing the program suspended at full length. Fig. 2 shows the same 2 5 hooked upon the fastening device. Fig. 3 is a View in section on the line 0000, Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a view in perspective of the underside of the attaching device, and Fig. 5 is a side elevation of the same.

My invention is particularly calculated to provide an ornamental and convenient device for attachment to the person and for the engagement of a program or score-card thereto, the same being more especially designed for 5 ladies use.

In carrying out my invention I provide a fastening device A, constructed and arranged to be attached in any suitable manner, preferably to a ladys Waist. The face of the device may have any desired ornamentation or form. As shown, it is provided with an attaching safety-pin a on the under side and with a hook to, preferably located on the exterior thereof. I do not, however, limit myself to the formation of the foregoing fastening device with an ornamental face.

B represents an attaching device to engage a program or score-card O, the attaching device being connected with the device A by a suitable piece of ribbon, cord, or chain D, se-

cured both to the fastening device A and to the attaching device B. The latter may be variously constructed within the scope of my invent-ion. As shown, it consists of a faceplate B, which may be of any desired form, ornamental or otherwise. Thus it may consist ofa floral design, orit mayhave the form of a society badge, or otherwise, as maybe desired or preferred. On the under side the said attaching device is provided, as shown, with a projecting eye Z), the eye preferably constructed with a cutting point or edge adapted to be readily passed through the program or card.

B is a pin secured upon the under side of the face B, adapted to engage said eye, and thereby firmly secure the attaching device to the program.

In the form illustrated in the drawings the pin has a sliding and rotatable engagement with the under side of the face-plate B, which for this purpose may be provided with a sleeve 1), engaging the pin and in which the pin is reciprocatory as well as rotatable. Thus to disengage the attaching device the pin is slipped upward in the sleeve b, there- 7 5 by removing the point of the pin from the eye b. In this position the attaching device is also in readiness to be secured to the program or card. Vhen the eye I) has been passed therethrough, the pin is moved in the opposite direction, thereby engaging the point of the pin in the eye. The under side of the face-plate is also preferably provided with a prong b constructed to pass readily through the program or card. This prong is designed to serve two purposes-one to hold the program more firmly and prevent its swinging about the eye I), as it provides a second point for engaging the program. It is, furthermore, designed to have frictional contact with the rotatable pin 13 Then engaged in the eye b, the pin is then partially rotated or thrown over to bring it into frictional contact with said prong, whereby it is held from accidental displacement from the eye. At the upper 5 end the attaching device is formed with an eye b constructed to engage the book a upon the fastening device. It will be observed thus that the face-plate B is provided with invisible fastening means, thereby enhancing 10o the ornamental appearance of the fastening device B, said fastening being invisible from the face of the program or score-card when in engagement therewith.

The ribbon, cord, or chain D may be secured to the devices A and B in any desired manner. The operation of the chatelette will now be understood. hen the program is in use, the attaching devieeB is unhooked from the book a and is suspended by the connection I), which may be of any desired material. When the program is not in use, the eye Z1 may be engaged upon the hook a, thereby suspending it more closely to the person and more out of the way. The pin B may be formed of a bent piece, as indicated, the end opposite the point being carried outward to have firmer contact with the lower side of the prong and engaged upon the body of the pin at a little distance back from the point, as shown at Z)".

In case a party already possesses a suitable fastening device A, it will of course be only necessary to further provide the attaching device B with or without the flexible connection, as said connection might be supplied by the purchaser. My invention therefore con templates as coming within its scope the provision simply of an attaching device B to engage the program, if desired, with or without the connection D secured thereto.

The fastening device A may be in the nature of a brooch provided with the hook (1., although I do not limit myself solely thereto; nor do I confine my invention to ladies use.

It will be observed that by securing the end of the pin opposite the point upon the body of the pin, as shown at Z), the pin is limited thereby in its reciprocation, as the said point of attachment Z2 forms a shoulder thereat, forming a stop against the adjacent face of the sleeve bf when the pin is moved in one direction and against the adjacent face of the eye I) when the pin is moved in the other direction.

I do not limit myself solely to the specific construction of the attaching device to engage the program or score-card as above specified, as the face-plate B may have other means of attachment within the scope of my invention.

What I claim as my invention is- 1. A program and score-card chatelette having, in combination, a fastening device to engage the person, an attaching device to engage the program or card, consisting of a face-plate B, provided with means of attachment, whereby it may be secured to the program or card, and a suspending flexible connection secured to said fastening device and to said attaching device, said means of attaching said face-plate being invisible from the face of the program or scorecard when in engagement therewith, substantially as described.

2. A program and score-card chatelette ha ving, in combination, a fastening device A, provided with a hook and pin, an attaching device constructed to engage the program or card and to engage said hook, and a suspending flexible connection D, secured to both of said devices, substantially as described.

3. The fastening device B, constructed with a face-plate B, an eye I), and a reciprocating pin B to engage said eye, substantially as described.

4. The fastening device B, constructed with a face-plate B, an eye b at its upper end, an eye I) on its under side, a reciprocatory and rotatable pin B to engage said eye I), and a prong b arranged as set forth, substantially as described.
