Metallic hoops for casks, kegs, barrels, 85o., have hitherto been made of beveled form in their transverse section, in order to conform to the bilge of the cask and t snugly thereto.
The object of my invention is to avoid this bevelin g ofthe hoop and at the same timeinsure the hoops being tted snugly'to the barrel or zigzagformcircumferentially,as shown in Figs 4 and 5, and admits of the hoops, when being drivenA on the Cask, barrel', or keg B, conforming to its bilge, as the hoops are allowed to expand at`. thcside or at one edge under the gradually-increasing diameter of the cask, barrel,"
or lkeg,as will be fully understood by referring i to Fig. 1,. These corrugated' hoops, in conse-4 quence of the stretchingr or yielding capacity givexithemlare not: liable to break in being driven on the cask, barrel, orkeg, and' when driven o n arenot lia-ble to get lloose--continl gencies which `frequently attend the ordinary smoothhoops. The crimping-br corrugating also renders the edges ofthe hoop betterable to resist the blows given `in driving them on A corrugated or crimped metallic hoop for casks, barrels, kegs, Sac., substantially as herein shown and described.
