I I I I I I n I I f n I u I I I n Q zer UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
VILLIAM GORDON, OF STUBBS, TEXAS.
CASTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 479,980, dated AugustA 2, 1892.
Application filed April 29, 1892. Serial No. 431,144. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern,.-
Beit known that I, WILLIAM GORDON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Stubbs, in the county of Kaufman and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Insect-Trap, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in insect-traps.
The object of the present invention is to provide for bedsteads, kitchen-cabinets, tables, and analogous articles a device adapted to prevent insects from ascending the legs of those articles and reaching the top and the contents.
A further object of the invention is to provide an insect-trap adapted to hold a disinfecting iiuid or similar' liquid either for destroying animals or for the purification of the atmosphere.
The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claim hereto appended.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of a leg of a table provided with an insect-trap constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a central vertical sectional view. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the cylindrical receptacle.
Like numerals of reference indicate like parts in the several figures of the drawings.
l designates a caster having an elongated stem 2, which is provided with shoulders 3 and et, adapted to support a cylindrical receptacle 5, and a shield G, arranged above the receptacle, to protect the latter from dust. The shoulders 3 and at are preferably formed by reducing the stem; but they may be formed by any other desired construction. The lower one 3 supports a cylindrical receptacle, which is provided with a central vertical tube 7 ,which forms a vertical opening in the receptacle for the reception of the stem. The bottom of the receptacle is provided with a central opening to receive the stern and the bottom rests thereon, and the top of the tube has an inwardlyextending annular iange, which reduces the opening at the top of the tube. The receptacle is adapted to contain water, coal-oil, acidalated water, or any other liquid either to destroy insects attempting to ascend the leg of a piece of furniture or for purifying the atmosphere of a room.
The upper shoulder e supports a concavoconvex shield G, having its convexed face upward and provided with a central opening to receive the stein and being arranged a suitable distance above the receptacle and adapted to exclude dust therefrom. The shield is provided with an eccentrically-arranged opening 8, which enables the receptacle to be readily supplied with any liquid, and a cover 9 is provided for closing the opening S. The extreme upper portion of the stem is inserted in a socket of the leg l0, and the device is adapted to be applied to any article of furniture, such as tables, kitchen-cabinets, and bedsteads. It will prevent insects ascending the legs of a table and getting on the contents. It will prevent access of insects to kitchen-cabinets and the contents of thesameby crawling up thelegs thereof, and it is also adapted for hospitals, sick-rooms, and the like, as it is adapted to contain liquids for disinfecting and purifying the atmosphere. p
The device is simple and comparatively inexpensive in construction. It may be readily applied to furniture and it presents an ornamental appearance.
In an insect-trap,tl1e com binatiou ofacaster having an elongated stem provided with upper and lower annular supportiiig-shoulders, a poison-receptacle having a central opening in its bottom to receive the stem and provid ed with a central vertical tube having a top provided with an openingreceiving the stern, said receptacle being supported by the lower shoulder, and a concavo-convex shield supported by the upper shoulder and arranged over the mouth of the receptacle and provided with a filling-orifice and having a pivoted cover to cover the same, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.V
WILLIAM GORDON. Witnesses:
G. B. HARRELL, WM. O. JOHNSON.
