FREDERICK WILLIAM WELLHAUSEN, OF AMITE CITY, LOUISIANA.
PLOW.
srncrrrcn'rron forming part of Letters Patent No. 466,477, dated January 5, 1892.
Application filed August 6, 1 891 s'enn No. 401,912. (No model.)
. socket dot the front cross-bar the standard Be it known that I, FREDERICK WILLIAM WELLHAUSEN, a citizen of the United States,
' residing at Amite City, in the parish of Tangipahoa and State of Louisiana, have invented a new and usefulPlow, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in hand-plows.
The object of the present invention is to simplify and improve the construction of hand-plows, increase their strength and'durability, to enable the parts to be readily separated and assembled, and to permit blades to be easily changed and to be readily adjusted as to depth.
The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereto appended.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is aperspective view of a hand-plow constructed in accordance with this invent-ion. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view. Fig. 3 is adetail perspective view of the cross-bar.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, 1 1 designate handles or push-bars slightly converging toward their front end and having journaled between the same a wheel 2 and connected intermediate their ends by a front cross-bar 3 and a rear cross-bar 4.. Thefront cross-bar 3 is constructed of metal, is provided at its ends with perforated flanges 5, through which passscrewsorbolts, wherebyitis secured to the handles, and it has intermediate its ends a socket 6, in which is secured by a set-screw 8 a plow-standard 9. The plow-standard 9 is constructed of metal and is curved and connected by braces 10 with the front ends of the handles, and it is provided at its lower end with a socket 11, in which is secured a shank 12 of a blade 13. By means of the and the blade may be adjusted vertically to regulate the depth of the plow, while the socket of the standard permits blades to be readily removed and attached to the standard to enable difierent kinds of blades to be used. The shank of the blade is secured in the socket 11 of the standard bya set-screw 14.
The plow is simple, inexpensive, strong, and durable, its parts may be quickly assembled and separated, which is advantageous in packing and shipping, different kinds of blades may be readily employed, and it may be adjusted to regulate the depth of its out.
What I claim is- I 1. In a plow, the combination of the handles, the wheel journaled between the handles, the front cross-bar connecting the bandles and provided at its ends with flanges and having intermediate its ends a socket, a set-screw, the curved plow-standard arranged in said socket and engaged by the set-screw, the blade secured to the lower end of the standard, and the braces connecting the standard and the handle, substantially as described.
2. In a plow, the combination of the handles, the wheel journaled between the handles, the front cross-bar connecting the handles and provided at its ends with flanges secured to the same and having intermediate its ends a socket and a set-screw, the curved standard arranged in said socket and engaged by the set-screw and provided at its lower end with a socket and a set-screw, the blade provided with a shank arranged in the socket of the standard, and the braces connecting the standard and the handles, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto aflixed my signature in
