GAME APPARATUS;

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 465,739, dated :December 22, 1,891.

Be it known that I, FREDERIK ADRIAAN ENKLAAR VAN GUERICKE, a subject of the King of Holland, and a resident of Djokjokarta, in the Isle of Java, have invented a certain Game, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to an improved appaf ratus t0 be used in lotteries and gaines of chance; and the invention consists in the particular construction and combination of parts, as hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forminga part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all of the figures.

Figure 1 is a sectionalelevation; Fig. 2, a plan, partly in section through oc 'y of Fig. l; and Fig. 3 is a vertical section of the drum.

Inside the cylindrical casing A is a rotating drum B, preferably with conical sides, as shown, and provided With a side opening and cover-plate at a. Vanes, buckets, or radial projections may be used therein for insuring the thorough mixing up of the balls, which are inserted through a funnel Z9, inserted through the lid E of the apparatus. There are holes f in the periphery of the drum for permitting the egress of the balls, and a loose strap F is provided with corresponding holes. The said loose strap F may be twisted round and fixed on the drum, so that the holes in the drum may either be covered by the plain part of the strap F or be left open by the holes in the strap and the drum being brought opposite to each other. The drum B is mounted on a shaft C, so that it may be rotated by the handle D. A cam G, with a detent G', limits the rotation of the drum to a single direction. Beneath the drum is a cylindrical tray M, mounted on a vertical shaft Il and deriving motion from the shaft C through the spur-wheels I?) and the bevel- Wheels 7.; K. In the body of the bevel-Wheel K are holes through which the balls may pass on their Way from thedrum B to the tray M, and a guard e is provided to prevent the balls from falling over the edge of the bevel-wheel K. The tray M has a conically-dished cover N turned up at the edge and provided with apertures m for the passage of the balls. A

suitably-shaped stop O is provided over the cover N for the purpose of holding back any balls which may have a tendency to rotate with the cover N, and thus cause them to drop through one of the apertures. The bottom of the tray M is inclined in all directions to a common point n, at which an aperture is provided for the egress of the balls. I1nmediately under the tray M is an annular plate l), the inner and outer edges of which are turned up, and which is provided With one 0r more holes p, through which the balls may drop into the spout R, leading to the outside of the casing A.

In the table S of the apparatus is a spiral groove V, which gradually deepens toward its extreme end and is slightly wider than the diameter of the balls. The groove V is somewhat enlarged under the outlet of the spout R and is covered with a shield T, preferably of perforated metal or glass. lThe rest of the groove V is covered With a glass plate, which, While preventing access to the balls, enables their position in the groove to be seen.

When using the hereinbefore-described apparatus, a number of different-colored balls corresponding to the number of players in the game is put in the drum B, which is first rotated a few times to mix the balls, with the holes f closed by the strap F. The latter is then shifted so as to permit the egress of the balls, and on the handleV D being again gently rotated the balls drop in succession from the drum through the bevelwheel K and then through the cover N into the tray M, through which they drop into the spout R, and are led into the groove V. The first ball dropping into the groove V Will run to the end thereof and occupy a position opposite the figure 1 at the side of the groove. The succeeding balls will take up positions opposite to the succeeding numbers, and the value of the prize 0r the points in the game due to each number is indicated by the color of the ball opposite thereto.

It is evident that the size of the apparatus may be varied according to the number of lots to be drawn orplayers in the game, and in order to hasten the distribution of the balls the number of the holes in the component parts may be increased, as desired, and the IOO two or more parallel spiral or straight grooves may be used, or I may use radial grooves to be filled in succession or simultaneously.

Locks or seals are provided for preventing the improper removal of the glass cover-plates.

Having fully described my invention, what I desire to claim,` and secure by Lett-ers Patent, is-

l. A game apparatus comprising a series of balls having distinguishing characteristics, a

lboard having a spiral and indexed groove, and a rotating drum provided with apertures through which the balls pass to be delivered to the groove of the board, substantially as described.

2. A game apparatus comprising a series of balls having distinguishing characteristics, a board provided with an inclined and indexed groove, a rotary drum provided with apertures, and a rotary and apertured tray below the drum, substantially as described.

In a game apparatus, the combination, with an apertured drum, of an apertured tray below the drum and means for rotating the drum and tray,substantially as described.

4. In a gaine apparatus, the combination, with an apertured drum, of an apertured tray below the drum, a conical apertured cover for the tray, and means for revolving the drum and tray, substantially as described.

5. In a game apparatus, the combination,

with a revolving apertured drum, of a revolving tray having an inclined and apertu red bottom, a conicalA apertured cover for the tray, an apertu red plate below the tray, and a spout below the plate, substantially as described.

(l. In a game apparatus, the combination, with a board having inclined grooves, of au apertured revolving drum above the board, an apertured revolving tray below the drum and having a conical apertured cover, and a spout below the tray, substantially as described.

7. In a game apparatus, the combination, with the shaft C, provided with a gear-wheel I, and the aperturedddruml on the shaft, of the shaft H, the apertured gear-wheel K on the shaft H, and the gear-wheels t' 71:, substantially as herein shown and described.

S. In a game as hereinbefore described, the combination of the perforated rotating drum B, the perforated' strap F, the perforated bevel-wheel K, the covered perforated tray M, the spout R, and a table having indexed, inclined grooves therein, substantially as set forth.
