Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK E. BLAISDELL, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
BILL-STRAP.
SPECIFICATION forming partof Letters Patent No; 451,657, dated May 5, 1891.
Application filed February 24, 1891. Serial No. 382,488. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK E. BLAIsnELL, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk, State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bill-Straps, of which the following is adescription sufficiently full, clear, and exact to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which said invention appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view showing my improved bill-strap in use; Fig. 2, a plan View of the strap opened; Fig. 3, a vertical longitudinal section of the strap partly open; Fig. 4, a like view showing the strap closed, and Figs. 5 and 6 plan views illustrating details of construction.
Like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the different figures of the drawings.
My invention relates especially to a strap for securing bank-notes together in bundles to prevent single notes from being abstracted; and it consists in certain novel features hereinafter fully set forth and claimed, the object being to produce a simpler, cheaper, and more effective device of this chara'cterjthan is now in ordinary use.
The nature and operation of the improvement will be readily understood by all conversant with such matters from the following explanation:
In the drawings, A represents the strapv considered as a whole. Said strap consists preferably of a straight paper band, creased at cl to readily fold over the edges of the notes. On the central portion or body f of the strap a re-enforcing strip 9 is secured, through which a vertically-arranged pin or brad h projects. One end 'i of the strap is enlarged and slotted at 3' to receive the opposite end 70. The end 70 is gummed on the under side at m, and on the opposite face a series of columns 19 is imprinted, said columns being designated, respectively, D, M, and
- Amt, designed for the insertion of the bills of a certain denomination in the first column, the number of such bills in the second column, and the total amount in the third column contained in the package, the gross amount being footed up at the bottom. As illustrated .in Fig. 5, the package would contain five one-dollar bills, ten two-dollar bills, &c., the gross amount thereof equalling one hundred dollars.
In use, the strap being opened, as in Fig. 3, the bills 0 are arranged in a pile, as shown in Fig. l, and the pin h forced therethrongh. The end i of the strap is then forced onto said pin, the point of which is turned over onto said end, as at r in Fig. 4. The end k of the strap is then passed through the loop j on the opposite end i, and secured thereto by moistening its gummed surface M. It is thus rendered practically impossible to abstract a single bill C from the strap without tearing it or breaking said strap. The amount in the bundle and the number of bills of any determined denomination being indicated in the columns 19, verification is easilyaccomplished.
Having thus explained my invention, what I claim is i 1. Abank-note binder comprising a flexible strap having a brad or projection for penetrating the bills, and means for securing the ends of the strap together.
2. A bank-note binder or bill-strap comprising a body of flexible material provided with a centrally-disposed brad or pin for penetrating the bills, one end of said strap being gummed to attach it to the opposite end, substantially as set forth.
3. A flexible bill-strap provided centrally with a penetrating brad, one end of said strap being provided with a loop to receive the opposite end, said opposite end being gummed to secure it to the loop end, and provided on its outer face with spaces or columns in which the character of the contents of the bundle may be indicated.
at. The bill-strap A, having the gummed end It and loop end 'i, in combination with the pin h, secured centrally and vertically on said strap, substantially as set forth.
5. The strap A, provided with the loop j and gummed portion M, and the columns or spaces 19, in combination with the pin h, secured vertically on said strap, substantially as set forth.
FRANK E. BLAISDELL.
