T UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE. V
JoHAN JAKOB WIKLE, OF WEST HOBOKEN, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO JOHN K. KRIEG, OF NEW YORK, N. 'Y.
PEGGlNG-JACK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 446,312, dated February 10, 1891.
Application filed November 20, 1890. Serial No. 372,027. (No model.)
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MEAN J AKOB WIKLE,
.a citizen of Switzerland, residing at \Vest IIojack. Fig. 2 is an end view of Fig.1.
or hammering In the drawings, the letter A indicates a base or support, from which rise the toe-rest and heel-rest, both fixed to the base A. The toe-rests consist of an arm or standard B, having a projecting portion (J, which can readily enter and support the toe part of the sole of a boot or shoe. The heel-rest consists of an arm or standard D, upon which the heel part of the sole can be supported during pegging The upper faces of the toe and heel rests are rounded so as to fit the inner cuiw'atures of a sole. By this construction the shoe can be pegged or hammered directly on the rests B D, thus dispensing with a last.
A toe-rest E, placed near the heel-rest D, supports the toe part of a boot or shoe while its heel is being supported on the heel-rest. The toe-rest E has its lower end journaled on a pivot-bolt G, which is carried by a projecting ear formed with or otherwise provided on the base-plate A. The pivot-bolt carries at one end a thumb-nut II, which serves to clamp the journaled end of the toe-rest E against the ear, whereby the toe-rest is held against movement in any direction until released by the clampingmut. The upper end of the toerest E is forked to receive the toe portion of the boot or shoe, and such forked end can be adjusted to and from the heel-rest D, and after adjustment can be locked immovable through the medium of the clamping-nut H on the pivot-bolt G.
The entire device being Simple and cheaply made it is not liable to get out of order, and
is adapted for general use not only in facto:
ries but also in stores or shops.
- What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent. is
A pegging-jack consisting of a base-plate provided with a heel-rest and a projecting ear,a screw-threaded pivot-bolt carried by the ear, a swinging toe-rest having its lower end journaled and turning upon the screw threaded bolt, and a screw-clamp nut engaging the bolt to clamp the toe-rest immovably between the nut and the ear which carries the pivot-bolt, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JouAN JAKos WIKLE.
