of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Folding Tables, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a full, clear, and exact description. r

This invention relates to the class of folding tables which have drop-leaves hinged to a stationary central top section; and the invention consists in an improved construction .and combination of parts, as hereinafter described, and specifically set forth in the claims.

In the annexed drawings, Figure lis a perspective view of my improved folding table in its unfolded position. Fig. 2 is an end view of the same in its folded condition, and Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse section through the center of the table and in a plane at right angles to the stationary frame of the table.

The stationary frame of the table consists ot' the foot a, legs Z ZZ, rigidly secured, respectively, to the center and end portions of the foot a, the bed-piece 71., firmly attached to the top of the aforesaid legs, and central top section t, attached to the said bedpiece. The foot a is elongated and disposed longitudinally parallel with the top section t and is formed with an elevated central or main portion for the reception underneath it of the folding foot a', which is detached from the legs of the table and pivoted to the under side of the foot a, as hereinafter described. The folding foot is of such shape and dimension as to allow it to stand under the stationary foot and parallel therewith, and thus fold compactly for convenience in storing or transporting the table. w

- To support the table in its erect position, `the folding foot a' is to be turned on its pivot into a position at right angles to the stationary foot a, and in order to insure its retention in this position I employ a suitable locking device, which is represented in the form of a lpin p, passing vertically through one of the central bearings or lateral enlargements a" of the stationary foot and into the folding foot a.

For supporting these leaves in a horizontal position I employ adjustable braces e e, which are rigid from end to end and pivoted to the lower portion of the stationary frame of the table and have their upper ends free from said frame and drop-leaves. ferably employ a pair of such braces for each leaf t', said pair being pivoted to opposite sides of the central leg Z', and the upper ends of the braces -being united by a cross-bar e', which projects with its ends from opposite sides of the two braces. To the under side of each leaf t', I attach transversely two brackets f f in such position as to bring said brackets to rest on the end portions of the cross-bar e' when the braces e e are swung outward from the stationary frame of the table.

In folding the table the braces e e are swung with their upper ends against the side of the stationary frame or side of the leg Z', and in dropping the leaf the brackets ff pass across the outer sides of the braces. These brackets also serve to brace the drop-leaf and prevent the same from warping.

One of the chief features of novelty consists in the arrangement of the foot a', fold- I pre-v ing under the stationary foot and independent of the folding leaves and their supports.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A folding table comprising a stationary central top section, drop-leaves hinged thereto, an elongated stationary foot disposed longitudinally parallel with the top section, legs rigidly attached to said foot and supporting the aforesaid central top section, a folding foot connected movably to the stationary foot and independent of the top and dropleaves, and adjustable braces adapted to support the drop-leaves in their horizontal position, as set forth.

2. In combination with the stationary central top section and drop-leaves hinged thereto, an elongated stationary foot disposed longitudinally parallel with the top section and formed with an elevated central or main portion, a folding foot pivoted to the under side of the elevated portion of the stationary foot, and adapted to lie under the latter parallel therewith and independent of the top and drop-leaves, legs mounted on the said stationary foot and supporting the central top section, and braces formed rigid from end to end and adjustable to either stand erect or inclined to support the drop-leaves in their horizontal position, substantially as set forth and shown.

3. In combination with themain or stationary frame and drop-leaves, braces pivoted to the lower portion of said frame and having their upper ends free from the frame and drop-leaves, and adapted to stand closely to the sides of the main frame and to swing outward and support the leaves in a horizontal position, substantially as described and shown.

4. The combination of the foot a, formed withan elevated central portion, thelegs Z Z Z mounted on said foot, the central top section t, rigidly secured to said legs, leaves t t', hinged to the central section Z, braces e e, pivoted at their lower ends to the central leg Z, and adapted to support by their upper ends the leaves Z t in their horizontal position, and the foot a', pivoted to the under side of the foot a and free from the aforesaid legs and drop-leaf supports, substantially as described and shown. 5. In combination with the stationary frame and drop-leaves, brackets secured to the undersides of the drop-leaves and braces form ed rigid from end to end and pivoted to the. lower portion of said frame and united at the upperends by a cross-bar, and adapted to stand closely to the sides of the stationary iframe and to swing outward to carry the aforesaid cross-bar under the brackets of the drop-leaves, substantially asdescribed and shown.

6. In combination with the stationary central top section t, central leg Z and drop-leaf t', the braces e e, pivoted to opposite sides of `the said leg and united at their upper ends by the cross-bar e', projecting with its ends from opposite sides of the braces, and the t brackets f f, secured transversely to the dropleaf, and adapted to receive between them the JOHN T.
