Description

WMM
(N0 Model.)
J. A. & A. C. HAROLD.
WINDOW STOP.
Patnted Nov. 4. 1890.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,A
JOHN A. HAROLD AND ADAM C. HAROLD, OF ROCHESTER, NEV YORK.
WIN DOW-STO P.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 439,655, dated November 4, 1890.
Application fled July 30, 1890. Serial No, 3601362. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern,.-
Be it known that we, JOHN A. HAROLD and ADAM C. HAROLD, citizens of the United States, residing at Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window-Stops; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this speciiication. This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in window stops and fasteners; and it has for its obj ect to generally improve upon the construction and to render more serviceable in operation this class of devices.
The invention has for its further and more immediate object a device of the character described which will include within a single element a stop for holding and guiding the window-sash, a weather=strip, and a stop and guide for the inside screen.
To the above ends and to such others as the invention may pertain the same consists in the peculiar construction and in the novel combination, arrangement, and adaptation of parts, all as more fully hereinafter described, shown in the accompanying drawings, and then particularly defined in the appended claim.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form apart of this specification, like' letters of reference indicating like parts throughout both views, and in which drawings- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a windowstop constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse section through a window frame, sash, and screen with my stop in actual use.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the stop, which consists of a strip of wood provided upon its outer face with a central longitudinal bead A2, which is rounded or semicircular in cross-section. This bead is out away at intervals of its length, as is shown at A', for the reception of the plate and screw used in securing the strip to the window-frame.
The strip A is also provided along one of its 55 outer edges adjacent to the face of the strip with a longitudinal bead A3, the opposite edge A4 of the strip being beveled or other-v wise ornamented, as taste may dictate. The
strip is fastened to the window-frame by 6o means of screws B passed therethrough at the spaces A', a metallic washer or plate C, having a transverse central slot C', being provided for the reception of the screw, said slotted plate serving to permit the said strip to be adjusted laterally, as will be readily under stood.
A slightly-tapered screw-threaded metallic socket D is provided within the window-frame for the reception of the screw, said socket be- 7o ing provided with an internal screw-threaded aperture for the reception of the screw and having its end provided with a transverse Slot D2, thus permitting it to be set with ascrewdriver.
When in position for use, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, it will be seen that the bead A3 upon the edge of the strip is adapted to enter a corresponding longitudinal groove F, provided for the purpose in the side tim- 8o ber F of the window-sash, thus serving both as a guide and securing device for the sash, and also serving as a weather-strip. The slotted Washers or plates C serve to permit the strip to be readily adjusted so as to cause 85 the bead to enter the groove in the sash the distance desired. The bead A2 enters a longitudinal slot E', provided for its reception in the outer edge of the side strip E of the screen-frame, where it serves to secure the 9o IOO consisting of a sti-ip of Wood or meta-1 :Lt- In testimony whereof we :Lfx our signataehed to Jehe window-frame and provided tures in presence of two witnesses.

respectively, with beads adapted to enter oor- 5 responding' grooves in the Windowsash and screen-frame, and means, as described, for adv Witnesses. justing the strip laterally, substantially as JOHN A. VIVEN, and for the purpose specified. \V1\I. R. LANSING.
ADAM C. HAROLD.
