THEOBALD OBACH, VIENNA, AUSTRIA-HUNGARY.
CABLE-GRIPPING lVlECHANlSM.
@A SPECIFICATION forming part of Lettersk Patent No.423,803, dated March 18, 1890.
Application filed July 9,1887. Serial No. 243,904. (No model.) Patented in Belgium May 9, 1887, No. 77,884; iu France May 11,1887,No.183,4=88; in England May l1, 1887, No. 6,925, and in Italy September 6, 1887, No. 21,705.
To a/ZZ whom it may concern.-
Beit known that I, THEOBALD OBACH, a citizen of Switzerland, and a resident of the city of Vienna, in the Empire of Austria-Hun gary, have inventedcertain new and useful Improvement-s in Cable- Gripping Mechanism, (for which I have obtained Letters-Patent as follows: in France vMay ll, 1887, No. 183,488; in Belgium May 9, 1887, No. 77,384; in England May 11, 1887, No. G,925,a11d in Italy September 6, 1887, No. 21,705,) of which the following is a specification.
My invention has relation to gripping or clamping mechanism for the wires or cables of wire-rope ways or other cable conveyers; and it consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and specifically claimed.
In the drawings, Figure l is a vertical central section, and Fig. 2 a vertical transverse section, of a grip embodying my invention; and Fig. 8, a plan view.
' The clamping or gripping apparatus embraces a stationary jaw and a movable or adjustable jaw, which is opened and closed by means of a knee-lever.
The gripping mechanism comprises the casing G, having the clamping-jaw 7c cast thereon. The movable jaw Zt is suspended in the casing by a bolt b. The knee-leveris formed by the links s and s', which turn upon thebolt b2, and by the prop m n o, that turns uponthe bolt h3 and upon the bolt b4, in combination with the movable jaw le. The handle Z serves to move the clamping apparatus, the same being moved comes larger and larger until the three points are in a straight line and the pressure has accordingly reached its maximum. On the handle Z being turned upward it turns upon the bolt b3 and presses upon the pawl p, which engages with the ratchet-disk Z, that is cast upon the movable jaw Zt.
The apparatus, as soon as it is clamped, is xed by the pawl p, so that it cannot open of itself. The spring f, which is clamped bctween the front wall of the casing and the movable jaw, has for its object to prevent the handle and the knee-lever from descending, if the apparatus is once opened, in order that the apparatus shall not close accidentally. The two jaws 7c and Zo are provided with rollers R for centering the drawing-rope, as in the above-described clamping apparatus. The jaws are, moreover, lined for purposes of easy repair necessitated by wear and tear.
The gripping mechanism for practical use is secured to the truck or object to be conveyed by having the casing G bolted to such vehicle, as adequately shown in Fig. 1.
fhat I claim isy In a clamping 0r gripping device for Wirerope ways, the combination, with the casing G, having the jaw 7c and a pivotally-suspended `jaw Zt', of the knee-levers or toggles comprising the links s s', the handle Z, bolts b2 b3 b4, prop m no, and the locked disk Z and pawl p, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature in presence ottwo witnesses.
, TH. OBACH. Witnesses:
JOHN A. LIssNER, E. G. F. MOELLER.
